The Seattle Mariners take a six-game winning streak into a series finale with the Texas Rangers this afternoon.
The good times may not last as ace Jacob deGrom takes the hill for the home team. See why I’m bullish on his strikeout prop in my Mariners vs. Rangers predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, May 4.
Mariners vs Rangers prediction
My Mariners vs Rangers best bet: Jacob deGrom Over 6.5 strikeouts (-109 at Caesars)
Rumours of Jacob deGrom’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.
One of the most effective hurlers in baseball’s history retakes the mound this afternoon in Arlington as the Texas Rangers hope to end the Seattle Mariners’ six-game winning streak. The ball could not be in better hands.
It’s easy to forget since he’s rarely pitched (nine total starts in the last two years), but deGrom is a dominant force in the game of baseball.
The 36-year-old isn't showing many signs of slowing down, ranking in the 82nd percentile or above in xERA, average exit velocity, and whiff rate.
Although his strikeout rate is down from 30.9% in his career to 25.6% in 2025, that deserves a closer inspection. The flamethrower’s 14.8% swinging strike rate is still elite, and his 106 Stuff+ isn’t far off. More strikeouts are on the horizon.
Seattle actually leads the league in wRC+ (160) against right-handed pitching since April 19, but those numbers deserve some caveats.
The best RHP the Mariners have faced in the last 10 days is... wait for it... Jack Leiter and his career 7.43 ERA. Other than that, Jack Kochanowicz and his 13.6% K-rate stand out as the only known name on the ledger.
Jacob deGrom is averaging 6.7 strikeouts across his last three outings and will be pitching at home. The books have set his strikeout prop at 6.5, and that’s too low for a player who averages 10.9 Ks per nine innings in his long, storied career.
Caesars QuickPick: Our Mariners vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)
Texas is supposed to win this game at home with its ace on the mound, regardless of how well Seattle has been playing lately.
With Logan Gilbert and George Kirby on the IL, rookie Logan Evans gets the nod. Nothing is alarming about the 23-year-old’s profile, but he’s making his second start in the MLB on the road and will put his team at a disadvantage against deGrom.
Corey Seager destroys right-handed pitching with a 155 wRC+, and the Over on his total bases props correlates well with the Rangers’ moneyline.
