HR picks for May 8
Kyle Schwarber (+250 at DraftKings)
Kyle Schwarber is doing what he does best this season, and that’s go yard. The veteran is tied for the MLB lead in homers with 12, and he’s already smacked three bombs in only six games in May. Schwarber has also gone deep in two of the last three contests.
He’s never faced Tampa Bay Rays starter Ryan Pepiot, but the righty is allowing homers at an alarming rate. Pepiot has given up eight in only seven starts in 2025. Six of Schwarber’s home runs are against right-handed pitchers as well.
All of the homers off Pepiot have come at Tampa's temporary home at George Steinbrenner Field, helping contribute to his 4.82 home ERA.
Michael Conforto (+475 at DraftKings)
Michael Conforto has struggled immensely in ‘25 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s playing a lot, but the outfielder is batting a mere .139 with just two home runs.
Not exactly elite, but hear me out. The Dodgers face the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight, and they send Brandon Pfaadt to the hill, a guy Conforto has raked against.
He’s 3-for-7 lifetime vs. Pfaadt with two long balls. While Conforto is in a major slump, this matchup could be exactly what he needs to break out of it. Pfaadt is also having trouble with the long ball, allowing seven in as many starts.
At +475 odds, this one offers major value for our MLB picks if Conforto can continue his brilliance against the Arizona starter.
Spencer Torkelson (+295 at DraftKings)
Spencer Torkelson is up to 10 homers already this season, which is tied for fifth in the bigs. He has two bombs in his last five games, and he’ll be in the Mile High City today, where the baseball absolutely flies.
Six of his homers have come on the road, and he’s also gone deep five times against lefties. The Colorado Rockies send Kyle Freeland to the mound for the first game of this doubleheader. He has an ERA over five (8.53 at Coors) and two of his three homers surrendered have come at home in just 12 2/3 innings.
