HR picks for May 26
Oneil Cruz (+290 at DraftKings)
The Pirates have a very special piece in Oneil Cruz, one of the most electrifying players in the big leagues. He’s having another solid campaign, hitting .236 with 11 home runs and 23 RBI. Cruz is in the middle of a five-game hitting streak and has five knocks in his last three games alone.
Cruz hit the hardest ball in the Statcast era on Sunday, which left the ballpark at 122.9 mph. The center fielder has three bombs in his last three contests as well, smacking a pair of homers on Friday in an extra innings victory over the Brewers.
He’ll face Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson today, who doesn’t give up a lot of homers. Nelson throws the four-seamer nearly 60% of the time, and we know how much Cruz loves fastballs.
Trent Grisham (+350 at DraftKings)
The Yankees have been led by Aaron Judge, who is seemingly on his way to another AL MVP award, but there’s also production throughout the rest of this New York lineup. Trent Grisham is one player stepping up in a big way, as the 28-year-old is batting .257 with 12 dingers and 24 RBI.
The Yanks face L.A. Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz tonight, who owns a 5.03 ERA and has allowed nine bombs already in just 10 outings.
Grisham is hitting .286 against righties with 10 long balls, and the Angels' bullpen also gives up a ton of home runs. This will be the day for Grisham to end his homerless drought.
Dansby Swanson (+600 at DraftKings)
Dansby Swanson is having another consistent season for the Cubbies, batting .256 with 11 homers and 29 RBI. The shortstop has gone deep once in his last three contests, and he’ll have some help today at Wrigley Field, with the wind expected to play in every hitter’s favor.
The Rockies send Carson Palmquist to the mound, who has struggled immensely. He has a 0-2 record in two starts with an 11.88 ERA and has already given up two long balls. While Swanson has never faced the lefty, he has three home runs in 38 ABs against southpaws this year.
Opponents are hitting .300 against Palmquist’s sweeper, his most-used pitch, and over .500 against his fastball. Swanson loves smacking the heater, and Palmquist hasn’t shown much since coming up to the big leagues.
