My Dodgers vs Guardians best bet: Dodgers -1.5 (+115 at Caesars)
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a Top-3 scoring unit in baseball, averaging 5.57 runs per game, and they’ve battered Cleveland Guardians pitching through two games, outscoring them 16-7, including Tuesday’s 9-5 win.
The Dodgers are an offensive juggernaut. They rank first in team batting average at .264 and second in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.
That’s helped cover up a pitching staff that's 19th in the majors in team ERA at 4.03.
Today, veteran Clayton Kershaw will get the call, making only his third start of the year as he’s slowly recovering from toe and knee surgeries in the offseason. Rain ended his last outing against the Mets as he tossed only 26 pitches over two innings without giving up a hit or run and striking out one.
Cleveland has lost three straight after reeling off four wins in a row. It’s been all or nothing for the Guardians, and right now, they’re in the nothing part.
Scoring has been a problem during this latest slide, as Cleveland has only put up seven runs across three games. On the year, the team is 23rd with 3.98 runs per game.
Pitching might also be an issue, as scheduled starter Slade Cecconi will miss his start because of groin tightness.
As of early Wednesday morning, manager Stephen Vogt has not yet named a replacement.
However, it might not matter. The Dodgers are chasing the Tigers and Phillies for the best record in baseball, and they have beaten Cleveland in four straight and six of the last seven.
Even a decent Kershaw performance should be boosted by an offense that continues to mash the baseball.
