The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their East Coast road trip with a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend.

My Diamondbacks vs. Phillies predictions are targeting Arizona’s starter to continue a strong stretch in the best MLB picks on Friday, May 2.

Diamondbacks vs Phillies prediction

My Diamondbacks vs Phillies best bet: Merrill Kelly Under 2.5 earned runs (+110 at DraftKings)

A quick glance at Merrill Kelly’s numbers this season may not look all that impressive. He carries a 4.41 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through six starts, but he’s been great in five of them.

Kelly started off the year strong with 5.1 innings of one-run ball against the Chicago Cubs at home. However, the New York Yankees greeted him rudely with nine earned runs, including three home runs, in just 3.2 innings of work at Yankee Stadium. He’s allowed a total of seven ER in his other five starts.

Outside of that start against one of the best offenses in baseball, Kelly has been fantastic. He’s routinely gone between five and six innings while allowing two runs or fewer. In fact, Kelly has only allowed 15 hits in those five other outings.

In Kelly’s last three starts against the Philadelphia Phillies — one last year at home and two in the 2023 NLCS — he’s allowed a total of nine hits (three in each start) and seven runs.

The Phillies offense has broken out a bit as of late with seven runs in their first two games against the Nationals before a 4-2 defeat. However, Washington doesn’t exactly have the best pitching staff as its 7.12 ERA is by far the worst bullpen ERA in the league.

I’ll take Kelly at plus odds to keep up his strong play as of late.

Diamondbacks vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Merrill Kelly Under 2.5 earned runs

Jesus Luzardo 6+ strikeouts

Under 9.5

Jesus Luzardo has been a great addition for the Phillies. He’s 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 36.1 innings across six starts for his new squad. The southpaw has had at least six strikeouts in four of those six starts, including two of three at home.

This should be a low-scoring game with two stronger starters on the mound. The Diamondbacks and Phillies each played to 4-2 decisions on Thursday, and we could see a similar final score on Friday night.
