My Diamondbacks vs Mets best bet: Mets moneyline (-140 at Caesars)
The New York Mets ran into a little resistance this weekend, splitting four games on the road against the Nationals in a wraparound series, but that’s done little to slow down New York’s meteoric start. The Mets stand at 20-9, boasting the best record in the majors. They’re second-best in MLB in terms of runs allowed (3.00), and have used a recent offensive burst to move into the top ten in average runs scored (4.72).
While the Mets have been hard to beat anywhere, they’ve been especially strong at home. New York is 12-1 this year at Citi Field, and that one loss came back on April 9. In their last homestand, the Mets went 7-0, with only two of those games being decided by a single run.
Arizona hasn’t been awful on the road — it has gone 7-5 away from home — and remains just a bit above .500 overall thanks to an outstanding lineup that’s averaging 5.36 runs per game. Corbin Carroll is over any sophomore slump, hitting .308 with nine homers and 23 RBI, while Pavin Smith (1.103 OPS), Josh Naylor, Tim Tawa, and recent four-homer club inductee Eugenio Suarez are also producing in the early going.
I expect the Arizona Diamondbacks to come down to Earth a bit on Tuesday against David Peterson. After years of struggling with consistency, Peterson seemingly broke out in 2024, posting a 2.90 ERA in 21 starts. He's off to another strong start in 2025, as his 3.07 FIP in 27 1/3 innings of work is on pace to be the best mark of his career. Not only is Peterson exhibiting improved control, but he's brought his strikeout rate up to 9.2 per nine innings this season, the one area in which he saw a noticeable dip last year.
Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodriguez hasn’t had the same kind of recent surge. While Rodriguez has enjoyed a respectable career, the 32-year-old is just 1-2 with a 4.40 ERA this year after posting a 5.04 ERA in 2024. While Rodriguez’s underlying numbers look a bit better in 2025 — his strikeout rate is up, while his walk and home run rates have improved — his career trends aren’t looking great, and he’s coming off two rough starts, allowing seven runs on 16 hits over 12 innings of work.
Rodriguez will have to deal with a Mets lineup that features superstars Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, a daunting prospect for any opposing starter. Having to face the now streaking Mets lineup in Citi Field puts him in a nearly unwinnable position tonight, as Peterson should be able to prevent the Arizona offense from outscoring New York.

I like the Mets to win tonight, but I’m also expecting a high-scoring game between these two talented offenses. That’s why I’m adding a bet on the Over as a part of my SGP.
New York’s offense seems to be coming to life, having scored 26 runs in its last two games. The Diamondbacks have been scoring all year long, averaging 5.36 runs per game this season and playing to an average total of 10.29 runs. Arizona has also hit the Over in five straight games, all ending with totals of 10+ runs.
Combine the Mets to win with the Over, and that suggests our SGP should include a bet on someone in New York’s lineup to perform. I’m going with the scorching hot Pete Alonso, who leads the National League with a 1.088 OPS. Alonso has 27 RBI in his first 29 games and should have multiple opportunities to add to that total tonight.
