The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs will finish up a busy day when they play the second game of their doubleheader at Wrigley Field tonight.

Milwaukee has been outstanding as of late, and I’m taking it to finish off a doubleheader sweep in my Brewers vs. Cubs predictions.

Let’s take a look at why I like the Brewers for tonight’s game in my free MLB picks for Monday, August 18.

Cubs vs Brewers Game 2 prediction

Cubs vs Brewers best bet: Brewers moneyline (-105)

The Milwaukee Brewers have been on an absolute heater and have pretty much run away with the NL Central race, leaving the Chicago Cubs nine games back after winning today's first game 7-0.

Right now, it’s hard to bet against Milwaukee, which has a +168 run differential — by far the best mark in the majors.

It would take a massive pitching mismatch in Chicago’s favor for me to take the Cubs tonight, and that’s not what we have here. Rookie Chad Patrick hasn’t gone deep in games for the Brewers, but he has a 3.52 ERA over his first 94 2/3 innings of work at the Major League level, striking out a batter per inning and posting a respectable 1.29 WHIP.

Based on reputation, the Cubs might think they have the edge by starting Jameson Taillon. But the 33-year-old hasn’t been great in 2025, as he’s allowing too many homers — 2.1 per nine innings — which has seen his ERA balloon to 4.44 on the season.

Chicago has lost Taillon’s last three starts, and he hasn’t gone even five innings in any of those games. That’s a matchup that the red-hot Brewers can handle. I’m taking Milwaukee to win outright in the nightcap.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Cubs vs Brewers Game 2 same-game parlay (SGP)

I like the Brewers to win this one, but I think the total is set a little too high at nine full runs, even with both teams having their pitching strained.

I see the Under as the smart play tonight. I’ll also take William Contreras to pick up a RBI tonight, something he’s done in six of his last nine games.

  • Moneyline: Chicago -115 | Milwaukee -105
  • Run line: Chicago -1.5 (+160) | Milwaukee +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under: Over 9 | Under 9

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
