The Milwaukee Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals in the second matchup of this four-game series at American Family Field tonight. MLB odds list Milwaukee as a -146 favorite, while the total sits at 7.5.

My Cardinals vs. Brewers prediction targets the home side in this NL Central matchup.

My Cardinals vs Brewers best bet: Brewers moneyline (-146 at FanDuel)

The clear pitching advantage in this matchup goes to the Milwaukee Brewers as right-hander Erick Fedde gets the ball for the St. Louis Cardinals.

His underlying metrics are among the worst in baseball and suggest that regression is imminent. Fedde owns a 5.28 expected ERA (xERA) and ranks in the bottom fifth of the league in expected batting average (xBA), average exit velocity, strikeout rate, and walk rate.

That regression could come to fruition against Milwaukee, a team that shelled Fedde earlier this season. In that outing, he allowed seven runs on 10 hits in fewer than six innings of work.

Milwaukee won that game 7-1, and a similar result is possible with right-hander Freddy Peralta taking the mound for the Brewers. Peralta is 5-4 with a 2.69 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 14 starts this season.

His advanced metrics are also impressive. The 29-year-old ranks in the top third of the league in xBA, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate.

The only reason this betting line is relatively short is that the Cardinals possess the edge offensively. That said, the gap is not nearly as wide as the disparity on the mound, especially considering Milwaukee’s ability to manufacture runs on the basepaths.

The Brewers rank 11th in runs per game and second in stolen bases.

Cardinals vs Brewers same-game parlay (SGP)

Brewers moneyline

Freddy Peralta Over 5.5 strikeouts

Christian Yelich to record a hit

Peralta’s greatest strength is his ability to retire hitters via strikeout. This season, he ranks in the 66th percentile or higher in chase rate, whiff rate, and strikeout rate.

He has recorded six or more strikeouts in two of his past three starts.

If Milwaukee is going to win this game, it will also need offensive production. One of the most likely candidates to deliver is Christian Yelich, who owns a .533 batting average in 16 career plate appearances against Fedde.

Yelich has also recorded 25 hits over his past 17 games, posting a .385 batting average during that stretch.
