Brewers vs Padres Prediction, Picks & Odds — Monday, September 22

With Freddy Peralta and Nick Pivetta toeing the respective rubbers, we're backing the Brewers because they have the better lineup against right-handers. That's where DH Christian Yelich will come in handy.

The Milwaukee Brewers visit the San Diego Padres at Petco Park to begin a three-game set Monday, September 22, and the Friars' magic number for clinching a postseason berth is down to two.

However, top Brewers vs. Padres predictions and MLB picks are calling for Milwaukee to pull off the upset in the series opener tonight.

Brewers vs Padres best bet analysis

I like rolling with the underdog Milwaukee Brewers in a projected pitcher’s duel. The Brewers have ace Freddy Peralta toeing the rubber while the San Diego Padres are countering with Nick Pivetta

Peralta is turning in a career year with a 2.65 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, and Pivetta has been just as good with respective 2.81 and 0.97 marks. Additionally, while both pitchers have out-pitched their underlying xERA and xFIP, I'm still expecting the two hurlers to largely limit the damage tonight.

A primary reason I’m on the Milwaukee side is that the Brewers send a better lineup to the plate against right-handed arms and have been the better offense since the calendar flipped to September.

Milwaukee ranks eighth in wOBA and ISO against righties, while also sporting an overall fifth-ranked wOBA this month. San Diego respectively checks in with ranks of 16th, 27th, and 19th.

Brewers vs Padres same-game parlay analysis

Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich sports a high-end .370 wOBA and .238 ISO against right-handed hurlers, and he’s also plenty familiar with Pivetta. Yelich has gone 6-for-16 against the veteran righty with a pair of home runs, seven RBI, and a monster 1.296 OPS.

Friars outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. has hit the Over in this market in six of his past eight games while piling up 11 runs, 13 hits, and three RBI. He’s also posted a solid .367 wOBA and .189 ISO against righties for the campaign.
