The New York Mets aim to lock up a rare series win as they host the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Citi Field.

Both starting pitchers opened the season strong but have struggled in recent outings, setting the stage for a high-scoring affair. In our Brewers vs. Mets betting predictions, we're backing the Over as the top value play for tonight’s matchup.

Let’s take a closer look at my best bet and other predictions in my free MLB picks for Thursday, July 3.

Brewers vs Mets prediction

My Brewers vs Mets best bet: Over 8.5 (-102 at FanDuel)

Both New York Mets starter David Peterson and Milwaukee Brewers counterpart Jose Quintana enjoyed fast starts to the season before seeing their performances fall off in recent weeks.

For Peterson, his early-season success culminated in a six-hit shutout of the Washington Nationals on June 11, but in three starts since then, the otherwise dependable lefty has thrown to a 7.47 ERA over 15.2 innings of work, allowing five runs in each of his last two appearances.

Meanwhile, Quintana won his first four starts for Milwaukee this year, but he has struggled since then, missing time due to left shoulder impingement. Since his return from injury, Quintana is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA over five starts and has allowed at least four earned runs in two of his last three outings.

Both lineups showed in one half of yesterday’s doubleheader that they’re capable of producing big innings, and tonight’s matchup features the shakiest pitching duel of the series.

I expect both offenses to have their moments in this one, which is why I’m taking the Over.

Brewers vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Mets moneyline

Francisco Lindor 1+ RBI

The Mets' offense finally showed signs of life on Wednesday, and New York looks to have a solid matchup against Quintana. That has me taking the home team to win outright.

I’m also throwing in a bet on Francisco Lindor to pick up at least one RBI as a follow-up to his excellent showing last night.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
