The Milwaukee Brewers (60-41) and Seattle Mariners (54-47) conclude a three-game series on Wednesday after splitting Games 1 and 2.
It’s expected to be a pitchers’ duel with two effective starters, Quinn Priester and Luis Castillo, taking the mound.
See why I’m bullish on Priester’s strikeout prop with my Brewers vs. Mariners predictions and MLB picks for Wednesday, July 23.
Brewers vs Mariners prediction
My Brewers vs Mariners best bet: Quinn Priester Over 4.5 strikeouts (-106 at FanDuel)
Quinn Priester has been a revelation for the Milwaukee Brewers this year, spinning a 3.33 ERA across 94 ⅔ IP for a team tied for the most wins in the National League.
I’ve had my doubts at points given the lack of a proven track record at the Big League level, but he’s had two undeniable breakout performances over the last month that indicate he’s truly found a groove.
First came a seven-inning, shutout gem against the Rockies on June 28 in which he notched 11 strikeouts while allowing a single hit.
Impressive — but it’s just lowly Colorado, right?
Not so fast. In his last outing against the Dodgers, Priester hurled another gem: six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and three hits allowed.
The Seattle Mariners will be a tough test, especially on the road, but there’s been a lot of swing and miss in this lineup lately. They have the second-highest K rate (25.5%) against right-handed pitching since the start of July.
The 24-year-old isn’t known for his punchout prowess, but he’s changed that narrative lately and has found a groove by averaging 7.5 strikeouts in his last four starts.
Brewers vs Mariners same-game parlay (SGP)
Wednesday’s series finale is strength-on-strength as Seattle is 5-0 in Luis Castillo’s last five starts while Milwaukee is 9-0 in Priester’s previous nine starts. With two strong bullpens behind them, the Under is in play.
Castillo has been tremendously effective in the comforts of T-Mobile Park (2.06 ERA and 23.6% K rate) and tends to play his best ball in July (career 2.61 ERA, nearly half a run lower than any other month).
