The National League Central rivalry between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs has been one-sided of late, and the two teams will play twice at Wrigley Field today.

Milwaukee is steamrolling the Majors, and my Brewers vs. Cubs predictions for Game 1 of this doubleheader expect the Brew Crew to keep the good times rolling with another win this afternoon.

Find out why in my MLB picks for August 19 below.

Brewers vs Cubs Game 1 prediction

Brewers vs Cubs best bet: Brewers moneyline (+130)

Simply put, the wrong team is the betting favorite at Wrigley Field this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers have topped the Chicago Cubs in five of their past six meetings and are rolling along an incredible 58-20 stretch while ranking second in wOBA and pacing the majors in ERA.

On the flip side, Chicago has plummeted down the National League standings, and it’s so bad star outfield Kyle Tucker is going to watch from the dugout because he can’t hit his way out of his slump at the dish.

Chicago might have a pitching edge with Matthew Boyd spinning a tidy 2.46 ERA and 1.02 WHIP this season, but his 3.82 xFIP suggests there could be tougher times ahead.

Additionally, the Brew Crew rank eighth in wOBA against lefties, so Boyd will be in tough this afternoon.

Milwaukee has Chad Patrick set to start, and he’s returning to the bigs following a stint in the minors. However, being relegated to Triple A was a luxury of starting-pitching riches for the Brewers.

Patrick posted a respectable 3.36 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 4.07 xFIP across his 18 starts before the demotion, after all.

Brewers vs Cubs Game 1 same-game parlay (SGP)

While the wind is forecasted to be blowing in at Wrigley Field this afternoon, I’m still anticipating the National League Central rivals to put runs on the board.

As noted, Boyd stands to have a splash of statistical correction coming, and the Cubbies still rank eighth in wOBA against righties for the campaign.

Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Chicago first baseman Michael Busch has posted a high-end .386 wOBA, .267 ISO, and .904 OPS against righties this year, and he’s also ripe for a slump-busting game. He’s mired in a 1-for-13 funk across the past four.

This is a solid matchup, too. Patrick has surrendered a healthy .287 average and .341 wOBA to left-handed hitters for the year.
