The Toronto Blue Jays have beaten up the New York Yankees over the first three games of this series and now own a share of first place in the AL East.

Tonight, the Jays go for the epic four-game sweep of the Bronx Bombers to take sole possession of first in the division, but they’ll have to be at their best against Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt.

My Blue Jays predictions break down why Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will step up in this pivotal battle.

Blue Jays predictions for July 3

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Guerrero snaps out of slump

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases (-105 at BetVictor)

Even though the Toronto Blue Jays have scored 23 runs in the last two games, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. tallied only one hit.

Luckily for Jays fans, he's poised to take charge tonight against Clarke Schmidt

Although the right-hander has given the New York Yankees some good innings this season, he’s been the beneficiary of soft matchups. Most recently, Schmidt is coming off a start against the A’s where he surrendered four runs on four hits and two walks, including two home runs.

He’s also an extreme fly ball pitcher, ranking in the 13th percentile in ground ball rate. That bodes well for Vladdy’s natural power, as Guerrero boasts a .519 expected slugging percentage over 14 career plate appearances vs. Schmidt.

Back the Jays star to find some traction and clear his total bases prop tonight.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI

Addison Barger Over 0.5 RBI

Let’s add Vladdy to drive in a run as well. He collected three RBI in the opener of this series and has five over his last eight games.

Another Blue Jays’ bat that will play tonight is Addison Barger’s. The second-year man went deep again last night, and left-handed hitters have been much more effective vs. Schmidt this season.

If Barger bats fifth behind Guerrero and Alejandro Kirk, I love his chances to notch another RBI — and it's worth a single play on its own.

A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS. These days Andrew's betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams; the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He's also an avid college football fan and bettor. You can also call him Covers Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows. The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It's not an interesting story. Seriously.<
