The Toronto Blue Jays look to widen their AL East lead on the New York Yankees with a win tonight to make it five in a row coming out of the All-Star break.
Max Scherzer gets the ball for the birds, while rookie righty Cam Schlittler starts for the pinstripes.
Schlittler's lone MLB outing didn't go so great, giving up three runs while allowing a pair of homers, both to left-handed bats.
The Jays boast a heavy left-handed hitting lineup, with Addison Barger leading the way with 36 extra-base hits. Of those, 32 have come against right-handed pitching, including 13 of his 14 home runs this season, sporting a .903 OPS against them.
What gives me confidence in Barger is the matchup between a lefty power hitter and a hard-throwing righty.
Barger clobbers the baseball, ranking in the 94th percentile in exit velocity and 95th percentile in hard-hit rate. Schlittler, who touches up on 98 mph on the radar, gives up hard contact and has already allowed two homers in just 5 1/3 innings.
