We have a matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox this afternoon.

Aaron Civale has struggled mightily against this Jays lineup throughout his career, and my Blue Jays predictions anticipate another short outing for the Sox starter.

Find out why in my free MLB picks for this June 20 matchup.

Blue Jays predictions for June 21

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Early exit

Aaron Civale Under 16.5 outs (-111 at BetVictor)

Aaron Civale was traded to Chicago from Milwaukee last week after being demoted to a relief role. Instead, the Sox gave him a new lease on life as a starter by trading for him, and now Civale is hoping to prove the doubters wrong.

His first start in the black and white was against the Rangers last week, and it did not go his way. He only threw for five innings, giving up two runs on six hits, while walking four of the first seven batters he faced.

Civale hasn’t pitched deep into any games this season, averaging just 13.5 outs per start, which is why my eyes perked up when I saw his Outs total set at 16.5 for this afternoon’s contest. He’s yet to go Over his posted total this season through his six starts split between the two squads.

Additionally, this Toronto Blue Jays lineup has had immense success against Civale throughout his career. He’s 2-3 in five starts with a 5.11 ERA, while allowing a 1.070 OPS when pitching at the Rogers Centre.

With the way the Jays' bats have been scorching hot over the last calendar month, Civale might be in tough if he plans to pitch deep into the ball game.

The Jays are among the league’s best in expected batting average and have registered the third-most hits across baseball, in addition to having the highest team OPS in that stretch — leading to 5.8 runs scored on average.

Civale’s advanced metrics show he has been fairly consistent with his on-field results, which include a 4.67 ERA and an OPS against of .864. He ranks in the 35th percentile in xERA while relying on soft contact into the outfield with more under-swings on his pitches to produce most of his outs.

This will match up well against the Jays' lineup, which ranks fifth in line-drive rates and has the seventh-lowest fly-ball out percentage.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Aaron Civale Under 16.5 outs

Vladimir Gerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Jose Berrios Over 16.5 outs

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is heating up, averaging two bases per game over his last 11 outings with six extra-base hits in that span. Additionally, Vladdy is 4-for-10 against Civale in his career with an OPS of 1.238.

Jose Berrios has been an innings eater all year and has gone Over this total in five of his last six outings. He’s also pitched six or more innings in each of his last three starts against the White Sox, who are one of baseball’s worst offenses.
