After a 14-2 Toronto Blue Jays win last night, the Blue Birds will look to complete a sweep over the Texas Rangers this afternoon.

Nathan Eovaldi is having a renaissance year for the Rangers, but he’s always struggled against Toronto, and I expect that trend to continue here.

Blue Jays predictions for August 17

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Eovaldi erased

Nathan Eovaldi Over 2.0 earned runs (-133 at BetVictor)

We’ve got another great pitching matchup on our hands tonight as the Toronto Blue Jays trot out Jose Berrios to the hill to go toe-to-toe with 2025 All-Star Nathan Eovaldi.

Eovaldi is having a Cy Young caliber season, sporting an American League best 1.71 ERA with a 0.88 WHIP.

However, the Rangers starter was roughed up in his last outing, giving up five runs on eight hits — including three homers — with a trio of walks mixed in.

Perhaps this is the start of some regression for Eovaldi, who owns a 3.18 xERA with an xBA in the 68th percentile. The Rangers veteran sports a four-pitch repertoire with the split finger and four-seam fastballs making up 53% of his pitch usage.

This style of pitcher has been feasted on by the Blue Jays this year as Toronto owns the league's best batting average against the splitter (.288), while hitting .261 against the fastball.

Toronto has also hit really well against tough pitching this year, and the offense seems to be turning a corner again after a one-week blip. The Jays have now put up 20 runs in this series so far, accumulating 26 hits and an OPS of 1.071

Additionally, the 35-year-old veteran is 0-3 with a 5.62 ERA against the Jays throughout his career, having been hit hard and often.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Nathan Eovaldi Over 2.0 earned runs

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Jose Berrios Over 17.5 outs

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been one of the best hitters in baseball over the last calendar month, and he sports a 1.087 career OPS against Eovaldi in 24 ABs. He’s also cashed this prop on five of his previous six starts.

For the final leg of the SGP, let’s take Jose Berrios to go deep and cash the Over of 17.5 outs today. Texas’ lineup is in a hitting rut, hitting just .220 while scoring an average of 2.9 runs per game.
