The Toronto Blue Jays’ bats finally came alive in their sweep against the A’s, but can they keep that momentum going against a much stronger opponent as they open a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies?

My Blue Jays predictions break down now that the floodgates are open; we’ll see the scoring continue in this series, particularly with Bowden Francis toeing the rubber against Christopher Sanchez in Tuesday night’s opener.

Read on for my MLB picks for Tuesday, June 3.

Blue Jays predictions for June 3

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Vladdy!

Over 8.5 (-120 at BetVictor)

The Toronto Blue Jays really needed that series against the A’s. Toronto’s bats were scuffling along for a while before exploding for 39 runs during the four-game sweep.

And what made the outburst all the more important and impressive was the fact that it wasn’t the usual suspects powering the offense.

Ernie Clement tallied a ridiculous 11 hits during the sweep, five of which were for extra bases. While Alejandro Kirk is quietly having one of the best seasons in baseball, no one is talking about.

The Jays' catcher got another six knocks in this series and now enters this series with the Philadelphia Phillies ranked in the 98th percentile in expected batting average. This is what this Blue Jays team needs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is always going to be there, but he’s going to need some support.

Particularly, if the Jays want to compete against better teams like the Phillies.

I’m betting they keep runs coming in this series against Philly. At least, for the first couple of games.

Toronto will face off against Philadelphia starter Christopher Sanchez in tonight’s opener. The 26-year-old left-hander has been solid this season, but not unhittable. In fact, he ranks just above league average in opponent expected batting average and has surrendered 20 hits over his last three starts.

The Blue Jays have also handled southpaws very well. They enter this game ranked fourth in batting average and fifth in wRC+ vs. lefties this season.

Countering Sanchez in Bowden Francis. The right-hander has looked a little better his last two starts, but he’s still trying to find the magic from last season. His expected ERA and expected opponent batting average both rank in the Bottom 13% among MLB pitchers.

That’s not great against a lineup as deep as the Phillies. Philly ranks fifth in batting average, seventh in OPS and ninth in wRC+.

To me, that all adds up to an Over on Tuesday night.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Alejandro Kirk Over 1.5 Total Bases

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBIs

We talked about how Alejandro Kirk is quietly having a solid season, but he may be one of the most underappreciated players in baseball.

Kirk tallied six hits in the three games he played against the A's, and he now ranks in the 98th percentile in expected batting average. He's also 2-for-6 with two doubles in his career vs. Sanchez. Let’s add Over 1.5 total bases to this same-game parlay.

And while it’s nice that some other Blue Jays batters are starting to help out, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is still here. Not coincidentally, Vladdy has a five-game hitting streak to go along with the Jays’ winning streak.

Guerrero has five RBIs during that stretch, and he’s up to 28 on the season. He ranks in the 99th percentile in xBA, and he’s been crushing lefties to the tune of a .348 batting average and a 1.053 OPS. Take him to drive in another run tonight.
