George Springer’s renaissance season continues to roll along with a hot start out of the All-Star break.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger has four hits through the first two games of this series, and I expect his bat to remain hot against a pitcher he’s had success against in the past.
Robbie Ray has an impressive 9-3 record with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. However, Springer is hitting .358 in 17 ABs and four extra-base hits against him.
Ray’s go-to pitch is his four-seam fastball, which he uses 51% of the time. This has resulted in a lot of hard contact with a 43.9% hard-hit rate. That bodes well for Springer, who has been barreling the baseball this season — ranking in the 90th percentile in that metric — while handling the fastball well with a .329 batting average and a .636 xSLG rate.
Additionally, Springer has been swinging a hot bat all month long. He’s sporting a .340 average in July, with seven multi-hit games already.
