We’ve got a busy betting slate around Major League Baseball tonight, including another matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the LA Dodgers.

Alejandro Kirk has had Blake Snell’s number throughout his career, and my Blue Jays predictions expect that trend to continue tonight.

Blue Jays predictions for August 9

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Captain Kirk

Alejandro Kirk Over 0.5 singles (-105 at BetVictor)

The Toronto Blue Jays hope to get back to their winning ways tonight when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of a three-game series.

They’ll send Chris Bassitt to the mound, while the Dodgers counter with veteran lefty Blake Snell, who makes just his second start since coming back from an injury in his throwing shoulder.

His first outing saw him go five innings, giving up three runs on five hits, including two homers. Through two starts this year, Snell has a 4.27 xERA, with a .288 xBA.

I expect the Jays to take advantage of Snell’s rust and put up more offense than they did last night, and I’ll be backing Alejandro Kirk’s bat in the process.

Kirk has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season with a .301 batting average, ranking in the 97th percentile in xBA. His eye at the plate is fantastic as well, with just a 9.8% K-rate, which should come in handy against a strikeout pitcher like Snell.

The Jays’ catcher is 3-for-4 lifetime against Snell, with all of those hits being singles. In fact, 80% of Kirk’s hits this season have been one-baggers, which is why betting his singles prop specifically presents better value than just his hits market.

Additionally, Snell is a fastball thrower with a 45% usage on his four-seamer and typically locates it high in the zone. Kirk has crushed the high fastball this year, sporting a .341 average with a .584 xSLG against that pitch.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Alejandro Kirk O 0.5 singles

Vlad Guerrero Jr. O 1.5 bases

Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 total bases

For the first leg of our SGP, we’ll use our best bet and take the Over 0.5 singles for Kirk.

I’ll continue to bet on the Blue Jays bats and take Vlad Guerrero Jr. to go Over 1.5 total bases. He’s hit the over in three straight with extra base hits in each game. He also has an OPS of 1.102, averaging 2.5 bases over his last 24 games.

For the final leg of my SGP, I’m taking Shohei Ohtani to go Over 1.5 total bases as well. He’s on a seven-game hitting streak, averaging 2.57 bases per game. Bassist has also struggled mightily on the road this year.
