At first glance, backing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at this moment in time may seem questionable.
The $500-million man’s OPS+ of 127 is a tad disappointing, with his power numbers down across the board.
Luckily, the Toronto Blue Jays’ first baseman is set to thrive against A’s right-hander Luis Severino, who sports a 5.30 ERA, second-worst among qualified starters to only Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz.
Guerrero is 4-for-12 with a home run against the embattled righty, and the Jays slugger still boasts a hard-hit percentage in the 92nd percentile and bat speed in the 98th percentile, signaling positive regression ahead.
I expect that to start tonight at Sutter Health Park, which features favorable power alleys, ranking third in home run factor and second in doubles this season.
