Tarik Skubal is awesome, but he's not tossing no-hitters.
In fact, he’s allowed five or more hits in four of his last seven starts. And when he does get hit, he’s been giving up a lot of fly balls, ranking in the 48th percentile in ground-ball rate.
There’s another thing that Skubal’s dominance is giving us. Players who get elevated to elite status like him become popular with casual bettors and zap all their betting value. In turn, that gives us some with opposing hitters.
That has me targeting the A's outfielder Brent Rooker.
The slugger is hot again, hitting .317 with a .943 OPS over his last 17 games, which includes eight extra-base hits and eight RBI. Rooker has also handled left-handed pitchers, getting to them for a .306 batting average and a 1.024 OPS for the season.
On top of that, Rooker is one of the few big leaguers with success against Skubal in the past, going 6-for-14 with two home runs in his career against him.
If the A’s score tonight, there’s a better than good chance that Rooker's responsible, which makes his Over 0.5 RBI a very good value just below +200.

You’d think the Under would be a solid bet with Skubal on the bump, but thanks to the Tigers' offensive improvements, it is just 5-5-2 in his last 12 starts.
The A’s are one of the few team with teams with success against him, combining for a .280 xBA and a .430 xSLG. We’re already on Rooker to drive in a run, so let’s pair that with the Over.
Countering Skubal is veteran Luis Severino, who is little more than an innings-eater at this point in his career.
He ranks in the 38th percentile in expected ERA and the 13th in xBA. That sets up well for Riley Greene, who has a .983 OPS vs. RHP and 59 RBI this season.
