With just a couple of days until the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, DraftKings Sportsbook revealed public bettors are heavily backing the favorites.

Key Takeaways

  • Georgia is the most-bet team against the spread in the quarterfinal.

  • Alabama is the only underdog with more than 50% of the money on the moneyline.

  • Indiana received the least support of all favorites with only 51% of spread bets.

A round of chalk talk would be in the best interest of the betting public, according to betting splits posted on DraftKings Network.

The only matchup on New Year’s Eve pits Ohio State as a 9.5-point favorite against Miami (FL). While 87% of bets and 86% of the handle is understandably on the Ohio State moneyline, another 63% of bets and 76% of the handle is on Ohio State to cover the spread.

The over/under provides much more parity. Forty-four percent of bets and 55% of the money is on under 41.5. The under was a combined 9-17 in games featuring these teams.

While the game is far from a foregone conclusion, the Buckeyes performed better than Miami against the spread during the regular season. OSU went 10-2-1, while Miami was 8-5.

The noon game on New Year’s Day will see Oregon take on Texas Tech as a 2.5-point favorite.

Fifty-four percent of bets and 64% of the pot is on Oregon -2.5. That’s a similar distribution to the moneyline, where 53% of bets and 62% of the handle is also on the Ducks. Seventy percent of wagers and 65% of the handle is on over 51.5 total points.

Texas Tech was a nation-leading 12-1 ATS to Oregon’s 8-5. The over was also 5-8 in Texas Tech’s games, compared to 7-6 in Oregon’s.

Upset watch, public’s favorite pick

The first of the remaining two games finds 7-point favorite Indiana against Alabama.

Supposed “sharp” money is on the Alabama moneyline, which has received 37% of wagers but 74% of the money. However, 51% of bets and 67% of the handle is on Indiana -7. Sixty-three percent of tickets and 64% of the money is on over 47.5 points.

Indiana was 8-5 ATS to Alabama’s 9-4-1. The over/under was a combined 13-14 in their games.

Ole Miss and Georgia will close out the quarterfinals with a rematch of an Oct. 18 matchup in Athens, a game the Bulldogs won and covered, 43-35.

Georgia is the most-liked favorite of the week, claiming 85% of bets and 95% of money in the moneyline market, as well as 74% of tickets and 89% of the pot in the spread market. Fifty percent of bets but 72% of the money is on over 55.5 points.

Georgia was 6-7 ATS, while Ole Miss was 8-5. The over/under was a combined 11-15.
