The Empire State closed July and opened August with its third straight week of sports betting handle below $400 million.
Key Takeaways
- New Yorkers wagered 8.7% more dollars heading into August than the previous week.
- Empire State operators experienced a 66.7% gross revenue spike.
- Four online sportsbooks produced double-digit holds for the week.
With little on the sports calendar beyond MLB before the NFL preseason began Thursday, New York’s eight online sportsbooks generated a $384.8-million handle during the week ending Aug. 2. That was an 8.7% increase over the previous week and $45.8 million more than the same period in 2025.
The New York Gaming Commission reported on Thursday that operators hauled in $46.5 million in gross revenue, a 66.7% spike from the previous week’s $27.9 million, one of the lowest weekly revenue totals of the summer.
The rebound was driven by an 8.3% hold, well below the consecutive 14%-plus win rates sportsbooks posted during the closing stages of the World Cup in July. Still, it was a slight improvement from the 7.9% hold generated during the week ending July 26.
Just one online operator recorded a double-digit win rate during the previous week, but four reached that mark during the week ending Aug. 2.
