Sports betting sites in the Land of Lincoln had another record month in January.
The Illinois Gaming Board reported recently that there was approximately $1.07 billion in legal sports betting in January, up from $1.03 billion in December and $867.5 million in January 2022.
The latest all-time monthly high for Illinois sports betting was the fourth-straight billion-dollar month of handle as well for the state, which has matured into one of the biggest markets in the U.S. for operators.
Moreover, the record amount of wagering produced $96 million in revenue for bookmakers, or a win rate of nearly 9%. As a result, the state received $14.4 million in tax from January's wagering. Cook County, home to Chicago, collected another $1 million or so in tax from January's action.
The bulk of wagering in Illinois in January was done online, and the leading online sportsbook by handle for the month was FanDuel, with $371.6 million in bets. Second in the state for the month was DraftKings, which took $331.4 million in bets.
