His working Bankroll should be somewhere around $4K now.

I'll verify that and post it with his next bomb.

CG had been posting on Covers since 2008 until he got banned earlier this year.  Never, not once, has he been caught lying about anything.  I have no reason to doubt he has a $49K 401 stash.

Yes, there are Haters who would like to see him lose the rest of his $30K original Bankroll and have to break into his 401K.  I'm not one of them.  It can be done.  I'm a glass is half full guy.  I'd like to see an epic come back.

He contributed, got some company match, and then the market was straight up. Why doesn't that make sense to you?

Thought this thread died - but just getting caught up on the last month or so.  I see the disaster continues, and is on life support.

As for the bet I made - it is a bet between friends.  I bet this guy all the time.  Since this bet we have probably made 20 bets, including betting on things like who would come in last in the Belmont to who will win the CBS show Big Brother.  So needless to say - we would have worked it out - but my guess is that since we cant really track CG anymore in a reliable way - that we would have had to have scrapped the bet.  But there would have been some intense negotiating.

Its a little bit sad that someone with the life experience of Goose is still cheering this disaster forward.  Even seemingly condoning the use of CGs 401k (which is maybe the dumbest decision he has made in his life, which should tell you something).

4k left?  Jeesh.  That's about 1 months expenses.  Just this week he had a do or die wager, and I am sure that is coming again.  Cant go all in over and over without getting called one day.

A glass is half empty type of guy.  You have been against CG since this journey started.  Why, I don't know.  Maybe because it's a proven fact that 95% of gamblers are losers and you are simply playing the odds.  But I have been paying attention the last seven years and I saw CG winning at 55% to 58% every single College Football season.  I happen to think he can be one of those 5% winners.  The plan was to survive until College Football Season.  Two months to go.  No, it's not looking good.  But CG has the ballz to throw up a do or die wager.  Three in a row and he has his $30K back.  You think three wins in a row is impossible?  It's not over until it's over.  And, nothing personal, strictly business, I for one would like to see CG make a comeback and stick it up your azz.

Sorry guys, I was sleeping late morning and early afternoon.  Missed CG's email and didn't post his play today.  He had a $1100/$1000 winning ticket on Colorado OVER...

    https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/bradshaw100/photos/over_zpsniqnnres.jpeg

Again, my fault his play didn't get posted pre-game as it should have been.  Nothing nefarious intended.

I've never taken Van to be a pessimist.  Realist yes.  There's no doubt cg will be into the 401k before college football season. Out of curiosity I'm looking forward to seeing his picks then, but seriously doubt there will be any rhyme or reason behind them.  And even hitting 55-58% with horrible money management and 10% vig isn't going to be profitable.

Where I live, hitting 55-58% is always going to be plus money.

I still think CG has a reasonable opportunity to make it through baseball. I (for two) would like to see a comeback, although I think Van's behind is too hemorrhoidal to shove anything up it.

It is somewhat surprising that he has a friend (to bet with) , but not at all surprising that he watches Big Brother.

Yes, there are Haters who would like to see him lose the rest of his $30K original Bankroll and have to break into his 401K.  I'm not one of them.  It can be done.  I'm a glass is half full guy.  I'd like to see an epic come back.

He might be upfront with his plays and wins/losses, but that statement is blatantly wrong, as he lied several times in this thread alone.  Like how about when he said he covers account got hacked?  LOL.

I also like in his latest video, which he now took down, how he is STILL whining and crying about losing close games on missed free throws, etc.  Comical.  And one of his main retorts to the "haters" is that he's still doing what he loves, living the dream in Vegas betting on sports.

    2 questions Goose:

1.) Why do you keep bringing up his "balls" to keep going all in as a good thing? I keep hearing you say "sometimes you have to take your shots." I like you Goose but no offense, that's a ridiculous thing to say about a professional gambler. To a guy with a full time job doing this on the side? Sure. But a professional gambler doesn't "take shots." A professional gambler does everything in a calculated manner, with a purpose.

2.) I know you like the kid and will remain on his side until the train inevitably falls off the tracks. You keep bringing up a potential "comeback" and hell, maybe CG will turn his 4k into 50k, it's possible. My question for you is...do you think CG has the ability to gamble as his main, and only source of income? (IE - professional gambler who can profit enough year in, year out to make a living off it) I'm genuinely curious if you believe this is possible for CG.

I must be missing something. Without going thru pages and pages, the title of this thread is CG is moving to Vegas to become a "pro handicapper" not a "professional gambler". Two different things in my opinion. I think his main purpose was be able to sell picks and make a living at it. But in order to do that you have to develop a following and get some street cred by "betting big" on his own games and put his life savings (401K) at risk.

I think his master plan is spiraling outta control.

tsw: "I've never taken Van to be a pessimist.  Realist yes."

This is a very true statement and one of the reasons Van is so respected on Covers.  He IS a Realist and his common sense stands tall among all the idiocy on this website.

You've been on Covers a long time.  Do you not remember CG's numerous consecutive winning College Football Seasons?  And I don't care how "Lucky" a handicapper is... You don't consistently hit 55% to 58% with "No Rhyme or Reason" Selections.

I'm going to talk about Money Management and answer your other question when I respond to rangerz.

    Jairob: This can be done.

bk: I miss those youtube videos.

I have encouraged CG to do more youtube but he doesn't listen to anybody.  Nick is a stubborn guy, sometimes to a fault.  You are correct about fibbing when he, in a drunken stupor, said his covers account got hacked.  Was that the same time he made some anti-Semitic remarks that got him banned?  I forget exactly how that went down and don't feel like rehashing 500 pages.  But my thoughts at the time were that he is always upfront with his plays, amount wagered, and wins/losses.

    1) "Why do you keep bringing up his "balls" to keep going all in as a good thing? I keep hearing you say "sometimes you have to take your shots."

This takes us to the discussion of Money Management and how a "Professional" operates.  You apparently are under the assumption that a Pro is a Flat Bettor and wagers the same 5% of Bankroll per game.  Nothing wrong with that.  Other Gamblers, myself included, like to vary their wagers according to how much you like a side or if you are Red Hot and riding a crazy winning streak.

No, I'm not a "Professional".  Gambling is more a hobby to me.  But in any form of gambling I've learned you have to "press" your wagers from time to time.  Now, Craps and Blackjack are not the same as Sports Wagering but you cannot deny the existence of Streaks (both winning and losing).  If you are not increasing your wagers during a winning streak then you are leaving money on the table.

Do you consider Billy Walters a "Professional"?  Because that is a perfect example.  Billy Walters IS NOT a Flat Bettor.  Never was and never will be.  If he likes a side and has the line he likes... He HAMMERS that play.

    2) "Do you think CG has the ability to gamble as his main, and only source of income? (IE - professional gambler who can profit enough year in, year out to make a living off it) I'm genuinely curious if you believe this is possible for CG."

I do.  The first few months in Vegas were the toughest.  I knew they would be.  The LV Strip is just a wee bit more mesmerizing than "Jersey Shitty" as CG calls it.  Very easy to get distracted from your goals in LV when you are 28 and single.  Couple that with the fact that Baseball is not CG's specialty and you have a recipe for the current near disaster.  I think the novelty of being in LV is finally wearing off of CG and he is more focused these days.

I know he can hit in the high 50 percentages in College Football.  He came onto Covers in 2008 and I saw him string winners after winners.  Year after year.  He is a different breed from the morons who post in these Forums.  So yes, I think he can and will eventually succeed.

Goose, I have never said a professional has to be a flat bettor. I think it would be ridiculous to put the same amount on a game you consider a “1" compared to a game you consider a “10." That said, there needs to be some form of PLAN involved. Remember back in the beginning of the thread when Van asked CG about his plan? He had no answer. CG’s bet amounts aren’t based on a plan. His bet amounts are based on how desperate he is on that given day and how much he needs to win to make up for previous losses. That right there is the epitome of a degenerate, not a professional. Personally, I think streaks are 100% irrelevant. If you cap a game as a 10 type game, then you should bet what you normally would on that game whether you won the last 5 bets or lost the last 5 bets. I completely disagree on changing bets amounts based on “streaks” but based on your theory, he should bet more on a good streak, and less on a losing streak. What does CG do? The OPPOSITE. He goes on a bad streak and then responds with “bombs” to get the money back. Professional? Hardly. People can differ on money management strategies, but a professional has to have discipline. CG doesn’t have a disciplined bone in his body.

I can assure you, Billy Walters always has a plan. His bet amounts aren’t based on randomness over randomness like CG does. Everything he does is calculated with a purpose. Everything CG does is random.

It doesn’t matter what percentage he hits. He doesn’t have the discipline it requires to be anything close to a professional gambler. Early in the thread I told CG that he was way too emotional to do this for a living and that he wouldn’t be able to handle the inevitable downs that every professional has to deal with. CG responded to that by saying “emotion is good for him.” Well, I think we can safely put that notion to bed after watching the trainwreck unfold.

“Capping” is such a small part of being a professional gambler. There are way more skills that are far more important than capping. Unfortunately, CG doesn’t have these skills and will never come close to doing what the title of this thread said he was going to do. But we can agree to disagree.

And thank you for your kind words at the end.

    One more thing to add...

"Discipline" has absolutely nothing to do with limiting the amount of games you play which is what most seem to believe on here. So many times early in the thread, CG said he was going to be disciplined and lay off certain games because he already had a good day and didn't want to push it. That's not the discipline I'm talking about.

The discipline I'm talking about is having a set PLAN for every single thing that you do. If you cap a game as a 10, then you bet what you normally would on a 10. If you cap a game as a 1, then you bet what you normally would on a 1. You do NOT let your emotions on previous bets or money won/lost play a factor towards your next decision. You stick to the plan under every single circumstance, and every single frustration that will inevitably come with the job. That is why I massively disagree on the idea of raising/lowering bet amounts based on streaks. That is using emotion, not a plan. But even putting our disagreement on the subject behind, we can surely agree that a professional has to be able to deal with losses well.

Now ask yourself, can CG do this? Can he stick to a set plan without letting emotion get in his way? Deep down, we all know the answer.

I've never paid attention to his college football picks, that's why I'm curious to check them out this season.

Most of CG's posts during the barrage that initially got him boxed were deleted.  But some of the quotes are still there.  He had a major meltdown after the BYU-Ole Miss game in the NCAA play in round.

Yes---the thread was titled wrong.  Should have read 'Professional Gambler' not 'Professional Handicapper'.
