I agree with alot of people that paralys are not good but I have to agree with you that in MLB they do work a little bit better.  I always do my single bets and put my two top picks in to a two team multi no more then two.

Just always remember that bankroll is the KEY dont chase any bad losses like you did in MLB this year thats what cost you a great year  as you spent the rest of the season chasing.

So I have over 30K saved (mostly from betting winnings) and I feel with no wife or kids this is the perfect time for me to live my dream of pro handicapper. 

 

Do you plan on having a wife or kids one day with a stable marriage in a 'normal' household?

If so, I wouldn't pursue this for more than a year.

GL CG, i wish you the best in Vegas. I just think it's a tad bit unnecessary to move to Nevada to do this for a living. I understand the higher limits and cash on the same day, but why not just try to find another local or two? Or enroll with multiple online books, and still working your job. That'll be two sources of income. As someone else stated, even if you are making 5k/month in Vegas that's only 60k a yr. Granted, most people would take 60k/yr betting on sports all day, but gambling income is never guaranteed. Either way GL to you, no hate from me, I just think you can still be a pro bettor without moving to vegas 

I wish you lots of luck with your journey. If this is your dream I say do it while you can. I do like the idea of having a part time job. Just as a little insurance money so you aren't relying on betting 100%.  Either way you do it, I hope it works out well for you and I wish you nothing but the best. 

A lot of what people are telling you is true.  You don't really need to go to vegas to be a pro gambler.  Gambling is better off just being something done for fun and recreation.  I don't want you to think im being mean but when people try this for a living it usually goes bad.  At your age id just keep your job and keep saving money.  If you go out there and blow your 30,000 your going to be in a strange place and really depressed. 

Just stay where you are and bet on games or whatever else you doing.  Vegas isn't all its cracked up to be and you don't need to quit your job to do this.  97% of people lose money gambling in the long run.  The casinos aren't built on winners and they know how to get your money.  I wish you the best but it sounds like a really bad idea.

If you quit your NJ job you won't get unemployment.Unless you want to hand out porn on LasVegas Boulevard you won't get a job without joining the unions or joining a temp service.Every Sunday ,the Review-Journal has plenty of ads for 'boiler-room exectutives" for the services and scamcappers.You think Jim Feist is going to hire you to give him picks???? It can be done and I did it for 10 years but it's a job and every morning I was in the Stardust Lottery and everynight I was crunching #s and getting a good night's sleep.I never took a drink if I was going to make a bet or was holding my bankroll.Don't make any bet where you don't have the best # or an advantage so no table games or strippers.Everything you do should be to protect the bankroll because that's the only thing that stands between you and St. Vincents(where the walking dead of Downtown go to dine and pass time).It wouldn't hurt to be a little humble and a little scared.There are only 3 motivations of Man: Ego,Fear,Greed and there is a dark and light with each.Live cheap the first year and the things that you truly learn you have to pay for.

One new angle I have to offer is this - and I speak from experience as someone who is partially involved in hiring people / bringing in people for interviews.

if Texas ATM ML holds on it will be 6 straight bowl wins and 14 out of 16       ill be 14-4 for bowl season after an 0-2 start.

NFL has been even better to me this year.    It's making me think I can do this for a living.  

I think i have the trends to win in basketball too.  although I won last year without any of that just doing my own picking.  check my season long threads as always for an update to how I am doing here in Jersey.

Quitting Friday... Keep looking online for apartments in Vegas/Summerlin/Henderson area...  Kind of want a place all picked out so i can just move in after my 40 hour treck but smartest thing to do would def live in a hotel for a week or so then view my prospective apartments first hand.

want furnished places too which makes it a little harder..  i plan on being very succsessful out there but don't wanna blow 5-10K of my bankroll on furniture before i start betting professionally.

I know it's just exciting. Pro's don't go on the runs I do. Got Clemson +4.5 now. Arkansas -6.5 and -7 my fav bets of bowl season. Made it a K play. Would be ironic if that was my one loss during this insane run. I doubt it tho Ark should shitt on the pathetic horns

Furnished apartments are an extra $500 a month as opposed to non furnished. Figure after 5 months I would be losing money with furnished as opposed to just charging 2-3K for bed and furniture and stuff. So going to get a place unfurnished

I've been watching your NCAAF thread.  Very good stuff.  My cousin bought a house in Henderson just after the '08 price crash.  He loves it out there and the house values are almost all the way back so he did extremely well.

 As others have said, there's no need to move out there right away. Do you know your way around LV? Ever been there for a full summer? Any marketable skills that might land you a job out there?

 If you walk from your job you're not getting any unemployment. It's too bad you can't just take a month off, or even a couple weeks & give it a "test drive". Honestly though......good luck.......it sounds like you've thought it out some & I hope it works for you.

My personal rules that I gathered on the internet that can improve your sports betting:

1. Money management. Bet less than 5% of your total current bankroll per bet. Be discipline.
2. Be a strategic gambler by picking your spots and wait for the right opportunity. Never be a compulsive gambler by betting because it's your favorite team or for the action. Do your research.
3. Stay emotionless all the time. Bet like a robot. There's no place for emotions in this profession. Be unbiased.
4. Do not judge a team based on what they did last week.

5. Never bet on heavily juiced/vig lines. Like a line at -1000 for example.
6. Never bet on heavily valued lines. Like a terrible team at 100 to 1 odds to win championship.
7. Parlays should be no longer than 2 teams, the bigger the parlay is, the bigger the House Edge. Research and Secure your first pick before moving on to your second pick.

Maximize your odds by betting on 7 point teasers on sides.
Ignore teasers that are 6 point, 6.5 point and on totals.
Teasers and Parlays give the sportsbooks the most house edge.

9. Teams with home field/court advantage tend to win games. Sportsbooks know this and favorites the home team.

Since sportsbooks likes to juice the ATS and ML on home teams this gives the disadvantage to gamblers.
So I like teasing home teams than away teams because that gives me the better spread with home field advantage.
10. Never bet on double digit road favorites. You will lose in the long run.
11. Never bet on preseason games on any sport. Predicting on 2nd string teams is stupid because of the lack of game footage on mostly unknown players.

16-2 bowl run now as I improve to 16-4 in bowl games after an 0-2 bowl start. This college and nfl season is just remarkable. Bet parlays early in year but just seperate betting magic since and this bowl run is amazing. Feels good but I want it to be like this constantly. Can't ever be satisfied. (Handshake)

CG- You've read the why's and the why not's, some really good advice on both sides. Single, 27, the only thing left at the end of the day is what Joseph Campbell the famous teacher and philosopher told all who could hear was "follow your bliss" get up every morning knowing that you have chosen to do what makes you happy. Not saying you wont have bad days, weeks even longer, BUT whether you stay or go don't let anyone tell you that you cant do- yes everyday- what makes you happy. I'm piss poor at betting but I have been very good at my day job for 40 yrs. Good Luck.

Check out motel complexs on the north end of the strip and you can get furnished kitchen and cable for 500-600 month and you're on a busline or walkable or your car is parked.Don't think about furniture.Check out the unemployment rate in Clarke County,you don't want to be working a Walmart greeter when you should be shopping lines.When you're in Vegas you got a job so devote yourself to what you went there for,you can flip burgers when you run into an 0-10 streak and you run back to your Horsesh*t Hometown.
