and I hate to clutter his thread but what is your current opinion on bitcoin as a method of gambling.

There are two sides of BTC as it relates to gambling - the present, and the potential.

    First - the present.....

Most recreational sports bettors don't know that BTC is relatively easy to buy, relatively easy to sell, and that the two major US books take them and pay in them - but most importantly - that there are several really good BTC only sportsbooks like nitrogen, cloudbet and others.  The great thing about these books are IMMEDIATE payouts, and anonymity.  No personal info has to be disclosed - and you can get paid right after the game.

The problem in the present world is the fluctuation in BTC prices.  It is problematic that you win at gambling, and because the price of BTC drops, it eats in to profits.  Nobody likes this.  But the remedy is to get in and out of BTC as quickly as possible.

So in todays world - you can get BTC - transfer it to a book like Nitrogen - bet - win - get paid right away from nitrogen - and turn your BTC in to dollars - all in a few hours.  No other method gives you this opportunity.  If you aren't in a rush to get paid, you simply deposit when you want to bet, WD after you win - and keep your BTC in your BTC wallet.

You can also make deposits and WDs from traditional books like 5d with ease and usually within hours.  Limits are big.  It is almost like Neteller used to be.  You take your WD, and turn it in to dollars the same day and avoid the BTC fluctuation risk.

So even today in the present-  there are many ways to use BTC - and frankly I am surprised that all rec gamblers don't use it.  The new BTC books are great with little risk.  Limits are a little low (usually about 10 BTC or 3k per game), but you can open multiple accounts and bet at several books.

    The potential....

The potential is huge.  Everything I say to follow has IF in front of it - I don't want to be quoted as being wrong in the future because BTC died - I am not a fortune teller on the future of BTC.  BUT...

If it stays the current course, and if the price stabilizes - you can just imagine what it would mean to gamblers.  Offshore books that don't take Americans might suddenly reconsider because there is no violation of UIGEA.  You would always be able to get the best line at the best price because you always hold your money.  No more risk of SB going under and stealing your money (I guess unless they did it in the middle of a game).

So overall - very promising - and if you aren't currently involved - get your feet wet with it.  I cant imagine how it isn't better than using CCs, or whatever the current deposit and WD method of choice is at traditional SBs.

Vanzack, how in a blue moon are you making money on the EPL? Most bet, mainstream, sharp line, efficient market on the planet. At least that's what I thought.

Only question would be the transaction costs associated with moving cash to BTC and BTC back to cash on a daily, or sometimes hourly basis.  I have heard the transaction costs are small in regular transactions, but curious on what kind of fee structure the books themselves will assign to the transaction.

BTC is a potential game changer, no doubt....but it also has some very powerful enemies.

But overall...  I bet all leagues in Europe - a lot of lower leagues too - just tougher to watch and follow from here.  But I run numbers on all of them - and even though I cant watch Chester vs Grimsby today - I have a bet on them strictly because of numbers.

I bet EPL usually on lineup releases.  I run numbers from Opta stats - and I have  great source for the lineup releases - I feel like I get them just a couple of minutes before they hit mainstream.  There are often 10-20 cent EPL moves based on lineups and I usually beat the moves.

It is a grind though - I don't have CG type of talent to pick 58% winners (that's serious) - but I can grind out 3 -10 cent advantages.

I plug a profit.  The season is long.  I have been profitable in like 9 out of the last 10 seasons.

    CG on a coke binge

I would never brag about paying a rack to get some stank stripper puss though champ, come on now. You could've penetrated multiple slores out there for that #.

ps. can I smell your fingers?

For smaller buyers and sellers - www.circle.com is totally free.

You do have a limit of 2,500 per week, and 500 instant.  In other words, if you bought 2,500 today, you would immediately get credited 500, and you would wait like 3 business days to get the 2k.

There are people who buy and sell on open markets for cash.  I am not really plugged in to that.

There are other exchanges where - as you say - there are fees.  I think it is usually in the .5% to 1% range.

All in all - as you state - there are enemies - and there is potential.  If the market matures - there will be more and better ins and outs and cheaper ways to do it.  New things will open that we never dreamed could.

    It could also die tomorrow.

For starting out - I recommend Circle.  Totally free.  Low limits as explained above in previous post - but to start out it is a good place.

Also, check out Nitrogen and Cloudbet - even without depositing.  You can see what it is all about.

To add on to what I wrote above - there is no reason if BTC keeps growing that there wont be more person to person reliable exchanges rather than dealing with companies like Circle or Coinbase.  Maybe there even are now and I am not aware of them.  I know enough to get around - but I am certainly not an expert.

Thanks for the info....admittedly, I am a novice when it comes to BTC, so I will have to look into it much further before moving one way or the other.

The upside is huge; fast and free money transfers off of the books.... I just don't want to end up being at the mercy of the BTC market itself as well as being at the mercy of 19 year old college placekickers.

But as I said - no experience whatsoever so I would love hearing someone who knows this stuff elaborate a bit on on the subject of live betting situations and approaches (with the angle of CG's pick history so we keep it OT)

In-game betting takes a ton of time and energy, watching most of the games you are hedging out of if not all of it, looking for the perfect line (so you actually have to root harder against your own team to get a big spread to + pts, and dedicating your entire night, if not every night to protecting your original bets through hedging possibilities in-game.

It's one big pain in the a**, makes gambling a miserable experience, feeds the addict, and after having said all that, if used in the right hands....actually works.

But like anything else, those 'right hands' are hard to find.

Scal, you are still thinking ingame betting is about finding a bet (either one placed during the game or before the game) then looking to hedge down the road. Maybe that's how degenerate action guys use it, but not the efficient way to use it.

For me anyway, you use it to find opportunities. You use it to "beat the line" across various books. You use it to find price discrepancies, things you just don't see before the game. (and if you do, they are minor in comparison)

I have been awful with in-game bets, when trying to beat the line.  But they should be looked at by EVERY serious gambler, for the opportunity to hedge, or buying out of a bet that you are feeling uneasy about, but currently on pace to cover.

And second half bets also provide some good value on occasion, but solid opportunities are limited, and time-consuming as well.

We've been getting killed lately with all the empty net goals in the NHL. Guys are killing us on the 3rd period puck lines. And once again I see arb opportunities every single night on NBA money lines. It might be difficult to have accounts with all of the books for Americans but overseas these guys have access to whatever they want.

For me anyway, you use it to find opportunities. You use it to "beat the line" across various books. You use it to find price discrepancies, things you just don't see before the game. (and if you do, they are minor in comparison)

We are one monkey away from this thread turning in to The Hangover 4.

I REALLY hope he bets today. Who am I kidding? Of course he will!

I have this feeling he'll go 4-0 and come out saying, "If I go 4-0 after doing blow and hookers, imagine what I can do level-headed!"

And then the bottom will fall out.

Welp, it's the beginning of the end CG! Unless your buddy hacked your account and typed that whole fiasco, Vegas is gonna stuff you like a Thanksgiving turkey, carve you up and send you right into the bookmaker's collective gullets and those sewer lines...well they lead right to Chris Christie's showerhead!

And second half bets also provide some good value on occasion, but solid opportunities are limited, and time-consuming as well.

Some books you're paying 40 cent lines on in game for both sides of the bet which is terrible.

Gosh, that sounds miserable. If you are guaranteed to make money fine, but if I want to be miserable I'll stay at a real-world job...not corrupt the hobby I enjoy.
