Rybakina's worst slam surface is clay, add in the wind factor and that explains her unusually high UE count which made for her loss to the Italian. Even then the Italian had the 2nd set wrapped up and choked it away which required a 3rd set. That needless extra work plus her choice to play doubles should cost her here. Andreeva is a future Slam winner while Paolini is a journeywoman who happens to be running hot. Class vs. purple-patch. The tipping factor for me is Paolini's extra workload from recent matches coming to haunt her here. No one is a robot. She's about to hit the wall. Her best chance is to win in straights, so this bet offers a 'get-out-of-jail clause'. I expect her to lose in not surpassing this game tally, but if she does win it'll (have) be in straights. Andreeva withdrawing from the doubles easily gives her any 3rd set fatigue edge.

It's an interesting match up for sure. Both Pao and Andre beat top quality opponents to get here. Not the match up anyone wanted to see because Saba vs Rybak would have been a top tier match to watch, but this is sports and shit happens...

Pao chokes too much for me...you do have an angle with the doubles side but not sure that too much energy is spent in those matches...more of a workout for the players than a singles grueling match...

This match up is a toss up, but I lean with the youngster as well...it's time

For me the energy issue with doubles is mental, not physical. The cost exerted by the demand to focus mentally sans any physical issue is best seen with chess. Same principle in tennis. Doubles is an unnecessary distraction for those serious about winning the singles. Paolini gets murdered in the final if she makes it that far. Coco got destroyed in the 2022 single's final having made the doubles final that same year. No surprise she lost to Swiatek, but the extent of her loss (1 & 3) wasn't helped by the energy she drained away focusing on doubles. And of course Coco is still playing doubles at this year's event. What did we just witness? Her blowing a 2nd set lead. How much was that down to the energy she's lost winning doubles matches?

If there was a day off in-between QFs and SFs, this result could have been very different, however having to play the very next day after beating Sabalenka was the best thing that could have happened for Paolini...experience on tour matters and congrats to Italian's Tennis Cute Smile,,,she's got my vote for best storyline in WTA tennis is a very long while - hard work, dedication to fitness, commitment to just living in the moment and loving life while being modest, humble and cute without being a social media wannabe instagram model diva.

Even if she gets rolled 61 61 versus the PoleBot, Paolini is the biggest winner at this year's French Open, and will be a true inspiration to all Italian Girls looking to be the next Princhepesa at Rolland Garros
