Does Federer want to meet with Murray before US Open?
I give you the answer, NO.
Murray would CRUSH Federer if they were to meet today on a best of 3 match. On a Best of 5 match, in a Grand Slam event Federer still has the edge because of several reasons but mostly because of the right mindset throughout the entire long match, that is a fact and who thinks Murray can take Federer on a best of 5 match at the US Open is somehow silly to my modest eyes. However, the last thing the Swiss wants to do is lose to Murray before this event giving him the extra belief he can take him.
This is why last week Federer lost to Tsonga throwing the match for the first time in his career probably and this is why if the weather conditions are the same as yesterday's we should all throw some money on Hewitt at +525.
I know what Federer fans are going to say, I heard it before Federer is a winner, Federer is a professional, bla bla bla...
I did this exact same reasoning last week and won with Tsonga, now I am doing it again today and if I lose it doesn't matter cos I would be losing only one fifth of the money I won last week.
If the weather conditions are as tough as yesterday, Hewitt can trouble Federer (if a guy like Ferrer did I don't see why Hewitt could not) and can make this a tight match. Hewitt is a warrior and you want your money on warriors, it's that simple.
I will wait for the Murray's match so I can clearly see if the conditions are friendly to the play since weather.com screwed me already a bunch of times in the past.

hi tenniscapper, good to have you on the board...gl man
i do take issue about federer throwing matches..never has, never will...i agree, he would lose to murray if they were to meet in the semis here in cincii but he won't mean to lose today to avoid the matchup..if he loses, it is because he plain lost
and in a best of 5 at the open, he may still lose to murray...murray got the experience playing him last year at the open and knows what it takes now...gl

Thanks for the greetings!
Must disagree with you here mate. He threw the match against Tsonga last week. Never seen Federer losing a set from 5-1 up.

Unless there is proof you can't go around saying someone threw a match. Big tournament or small tournament these guys still want to win and keep their sponsors or get new sponsors.
Money is money and that's why they play professional tennis.

What do you mean by this? I absolutely didn't say the match was fixed or something, that would be shameful from my side and I could be fairly attacked.
All I said is that Federer just didn't feel like playing that day and threw the match, I can confirm this, I was watching the match and it looked like he really didn't want to go deeper in that tournament.
If he plays 1000 matches in a Grand Slam event against Tsonga and he is up 5-1 and serving in the decisive set he will win 1000 times.
With all the false accusations people make about match fixing etc... how can this statement be considered so bad?
You are right, the guy is a professional and money is money. But do you really think that a QF in a no slam 1000 Master Event which is about 30 grands will make a difference in Federer's bank?
Besides, it is normal that a human being sometimes doesn't give 100% regardless of his profession and bank account. This was the first time I have seen Federer do that and I can only justify it because he is thinking long term and doesn't want to play Murray before US Open, I am not making any sort of accusation. I am just trying to handicap the match looking at everything.

I both agree and disagree with TC. Having watched that match carefully, Federer was not in synch the entire match against Tsongas, framing balls routinely, and losing the first set. Tsongas came back after a bad fall, and had clearly lost his concentration and essentially tanked the second set.
Down 5-1, however, Tsongas did not give up,as I (and everyone broadcasting) thought he would. He simply kept balls in play. Then he started hitting out, crushing balls, and Fed went back to framing shots, mistiming crushed groundies by Tsongas.Tsongas got on a real roll.
Fed got irritated as well. If it were the 5th set in a major, he would have sealed the deal, but with difficulty. As it was, face it, it was not a major. Is that throwing a match? Nope. It is simply not caring as much about the outcome.
There is only one important tournament left, and it is not this one. Federer knows that. Would he like to win? Sure. Is he going to be as motivated to win it as, say, Murray or Nadal? Not really. It simply does not matter as much to him. He is going to use it for what it is, a tune up, and not sweat it if he loses. At this stage in his career, he is is all about the majors, as he should be.

Maybe "throwing the match" is a bit harsh but the fact that you are saying that "It is simply not caring as much about the outcome." proves pretty much what I was saying just in different words.
That being said, the wager is on. I am throwing something on Hewitt. Conditions will favor the Aussie.
Forgot to mention 2 things:
a) Federer lost in the third round last year to Karlovic therefore has no points to defend, actually he gained points reaching the QF.
b) Hewitt is ranked number 42 in the world and winning today will get him a seed spot at the US Open
Motivation wise I would expect Hewitt to come out as hard as he can, the conditions will overwhelmingly be in his favor and adding all of this up I make him a good trading prospect.

Good points Vermeer.

I can't believe Hewitt is playing, the guy is limping and couldn't jump to get a simple smash, I don't get it. Not that I care, my money is already down the toilet in this one as Betfair pays after completion of 1st set.

Are you serious?? What book is that??

balz, look at the odds i got, i bought 1 and for that odds dropped huge, but it was a winner ...when i saw the hendicap, i didnt like +4.5 just for this type of game they played, and thats why i bough 1 and i felt fine with the bet...
+4.5 was like 1.8 but that would be a lost bet so a nice buy

Tenniscapper I have noticed a lot of your "leans" over the past 48 hours have lost. You celebrate big when you win but are as quiet as a church mouse when you lose.
Like I said Roger is not going to throw a match because he doesn't feel like playing. Winners are winners because they WIN not play when they feel like it.

You are a funny dude. Do you know how many winners I need at +525 to break even? 18%...
So far I have given this board 2 +450 Underdogs that won the match STRAIGHT UP. Those are good for 9 Units if you played them for 1 unit.
I have given a very smart play on Almagro ATS vs Murray saying it was a large play and WON.
I have given Berdych +170 that won STRAIGHT UP.
I traded and WON yesterday with Mathieu, I traded and WON for the match between Andreev and Simon.
I don't know exactly who do you think I am? GOD???

Besides, yesterday you were begging me to release a strong play, you forgot already?
My answer was:
It's a bad card, I am playing this only for 1% of my bankroll, yes, not even a unit.
I think you are getting too spoiled by the fact I won a few huge underdogs, well buddy if you are planning on tailing me make sure that only who has BALLS can be an underdog player because somebody can't stomach losing even 10 / 15 wagers in a row.
Clearly maybe you aren't cut to bet underdogs, since you are coming here saying these things.
