Mostly based on the eye test- watching both players here. I follow and watch Siniakova very closely and I probably know more about her tendencies than I know about any other player. These courts suit her game well and when she's at her best she can beat anybody. She's gotten into a groove here and as long as her fitness holds up I think there's a good chance she beats Potapova in the final. Betting on her at close to even odds or as an underdog in situations like this are historically profitable for me as well. She's a tough player to crack as far as betting goes but I think this is a spot to pull the trigger on her.
I'm still in wait and see mode personally though. If the odds were to balloon to like Siniakova +130 closer to match time then I'd probably lay off since that could indicate fitness concerns. I was concerned about that thigh cast tape job before the tournament started but so far she's moved around the court brilliantly.
She skipped out on doubles here and it looks like she's not in the Doha doubles draw which is unusual for her. And probably good chance she withdraws from singles if she wins today. A lot of big tournaments upcoming, including the sunshine double where her and Townsend will be looking to make runs.
So I think she'll give everything she's got here to try to snatch a title in a winnable field and then withdraw from Doha and take the week off for rest. Which could be the lucky loser spot that opens up for Kudermetova if she loses to Andreeva this morning.
The Kudermetova sisters are top two remaining seeds in doha qualifying. Polina down a set and break. I think they both lose and come in as lucky losers to replace Siniakova and Krueger.
Tons of good first round matches in Doha. Zeynep got a wildcard and faces Kostyuk. That would be a huge win if she could somehow pull that off. She'll have mideastern support I'm sure.
