What anti-virus program to use

I got a virus/malware I just cant seem to shake right now.  So damn frustrating.  HP Home Security 2011 or some shit.  Trying to follow directions to eradicate but just can't get it done.

I came on here looking for anti-virus and this thread is perfect. I was just given a laptop. A year or two old, he reformatted it first and Windows XP is on there and office and whatnot but said I need antivirus.  Why are people using multiple programs? Do they do separate things?  After reading this I will download Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.  Will that cover all of my bases so I'm good to go? Will just the first one keep me virus free? Thanks for the help.
