I'm starting to get interested in learning web design..any suggestion on where to start? I get confused on whether or not I should learn vbscript or java script for browser scripting...and for server-side scripting ado or asp.  I already know a little bit of html and xml (also some visual basics OOP and database (sql and a little bit of oracle)...Therefore, if someone can give me some advice on where to start I would be greatly appreciated.
btw I'm learning most of the basics from https://www.w3schools.com/sitemap/sitemap_tutorials.asp if anyone else is interested

Dreamweaver is a great place to start.  Unless you decide to do this for a career, stick to the point and click stuff.  It's very good for most sites and has a not to tough learning curve.  Those big yellow and black books will do you well.  Purchase one.

Just curious, if I master dreamweaver would learning web design (like ado, asp, etc) be a lot easier for me? I was thinking about shifting my career to web design (always been interested in IT) so I want to start from scratch, and build my knowledge from there.  Anyways I appreciate the advice lipps

also, I've been looking at the job listing in IT section of craigslist, it seems like there's a demand in flash, C#, Java, Asp.net, and vb.net....Do most people require to learn all these different types of scripting, or do they just try to master in one?
(I think C# is application which is different I think from web design?)

Well if you to make a career out of it you will have to learn everything you mentioned.  And get ready for them to change before you master all the above.  It's just the nature of the beast.

But as long as you master and I mean really MASTER C#, Flash and Java you will be golden.  Mainly C#.  You can parlay that into many different fields.  But really, you will do more than just web pages before it's over it.  You will be limiting yourself by doing that.

Head to Ebay and pick up some books and CD's.  Take one at a time and learn everything in the chapter before you move on.

Start with.......You know what I'm going to say.

Is C# what most open source apps, for things like Android phone, use?  Or is it a combination of languages?

    C# is a simple, general-purpose, object-oriented programming language.

Here is a wiki page that will give you most of the details.  It mainly has to do withth .NET.

You should learn C of course and C++.  C has been around since 1972 and is a staple. It's pure machine lauguage.  C++ is an updated version,  Which BTW, when I say updated I mean it came out in 1979.
