Anyone have good horse racing betting angles

tough game -- have had best results by creating a fake stable of horses that win at least 10% and following them. odds go up after losses and you can alter bets some also. another is dutching the 3rd, 4th and 5th board favorites to win. need to use a "due" type bet system for this.

find horses racing first time after being claimed works in both thoroughbred or standardbred horses

also find horses running in a maiden claiming race for the first time its the bottom condition for all horses

i sometimes find i get good odds on a horse moving up in class after a good finish versus higher class horses moving down after mediocre performances...the horses moving down seem to take more money and don't tend to do that well....i realize this is a gross generalization with many other factors to consider

simple system i use for thoroughbred and standardbreds! a simple calcualtor is all that is needed ! using at least 6 races for the year ! Look at Money Earned for the year ! say a horse won $6500 for the year in 6 races that = $1083.00 Earned per race Now go back and look at last 6 Races finishes say he had 1 win 2 places and 1 show each win = 300 each place = 100 each show = 50 3 +2 + 50 = 550 added to the 1083 you horses clas rating is now $1633.00 Now look at last race (but in trotters DO not use those conditiong races they do not count) EACH horse in race his last Race did he finsh at PLUS = gaining Lengths or a Minus Losing Lenghts IF a winning Horse won BUT was ahaed by 5 lengths before Finish and at Finish He he only won by a length Thats - 4 lengths! mark that on your racing form or program ! Now after you look at all horses YOU might Find only one horse that has a Plus vs horses that all were minus lengths and His Rating vs the other top rated horses was 950 for the year ! THis is YOUR strongest horse to get the money ! Every race only has 4 horses that are contenders the rest are there just as hole fillers ! I handicap every race this way and have found many times MY top 4 horses ran that way in fucking order 1-2-3-4- this shows in rating the Class of Horses by dividing money Earned by how many races horse raced for the year ! EX: Winners Class Rating was $1580 2nd Place Was $1450 3rd place was $1075 4th Place was $980 also Theses ratings Have nothing to do with odds ! I have found HUGE longshots vs over priced favorites ! 25 - 1 15-1 10- 1 55-1 etc... THe Beauty of Horse racing is YOU don't have to Win the race to WIN Money a 2nd Place or 3rd place LONG Shot Might Pay 10.20 vs a a Fvaorite who paid 4.20 2.40 2.10 Last week i had 70-1 long shot finish second to heavy chalk by a 1/2 lenght ! The Chalk Paid 3.80 to win MY longshot loser Paid Me $20.50 to Place and $10.70 to show ! I wagered $20 across the Board on this OVERLAY longshot! lose $20 beacuse he finished 2nd BUT got back $312.00 $292.00 Profit and I lost the Race !!! This Handicapping method I learned long ago from a Book that Can Be found in your Free Library! I Forget The Author BUT it has worked for me for 20 years ! Not bad at all marquis! I would prefer using the top 3 in dutched win bets as opposed to across the board with highest rated that are within a certain range(I am assuming that many times numbers are close). Would use alone in the case of a standout number.

That system i have used for over 20 years and it has made me THOUSANDS of Dollars every year at every track i play ! I'm NOT talking about CLOSERS either it's a Method of Handicapping every race ! a HORSE that was gaining lengths at End with a Good rating will be in the money more often than a Horse who lost lengths at end of his last race ! I have benn betting Ponies for a long time since u was 19 yrs old started the system in 1980 26 years of TIME TESTED SUCCESS ! actual MONEY wagered ! sometimes i went to the track 4 days a week ! Tom Ainslie maybe? Oh well -- doesn't matter really. What I like about what you are doing is that it is simplistic and still has key elements that are needed by winning horses. The fact that it does not dig too deep in handicapping leaves a few longshots included. The better we all get at handicapping a race (to death) the closer we get to the morning line results. Very frustrating to spend all that time, and could have just looked in program! Another shortcut method is to track your local newspaper handicapper's 3rd & 4th picks -- you will be surprised at how many longshots come from them.

Great stuff - I'm more of a harness fan (but I do bet on the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup and occasionally other thoroughbred) - heard of this system years ago, I also think it was Ainslie. I'll try it at the Big M in December and let you know. I think it may have some holes, but let me ask some questions: - Does this ignore any track variants? (Does it matter where they ran or are running today?) - In trotters, if they break stride, shouldn't race be thrown out? (It would skew results.) - What if some horses didn't run six times in a race and some did? How would you compare? - Still thinking how this might work when you ignore pace handicapping or post positions or bad trips or weather conditions. Nonetheless, I'll add it to my handicapping.

YEAH thats the BOOK TOM AINSLIES book Thank you guys for reminding me ! HE was PRO Capper of Thourghoubred Horses ! and the day i started using that book I won 6 races out of Ten and Won $350 just betting the Winner ! ONE day I actually had a shot at the Biggest trifecta ever at Phila PARK! Handicapped the race Saw 3 horses all dropping slightly in class ! These 3 horses ran together twice before and seem to all finish close to each other ! handiacpped them Looked up at Board and Said NAHHHHHHHHHHH the 3 longest shots on the Borad Never happen 55 -1 35-1 25-1 # 6 # 11 # 12 a sprint race I went with the 35 -1 shot #6 (most dominating post in sprints at Philly Park)Now we've Got Em 10$ across the Board ! HE wins by 5 lengths and what two horses break out of pack of closers 50 ft before wire ? YOU guessed it #11 # 12 second Place Horse name Alabama Gold cannot reember #12's name ! 1 Winner had the ticket ! mustve boxed all the combos ! Trifecta Paid $38,658 and cahnge the Yaer was 1980 race #4 on satuarday afternoon I kicked the Chair in front of me almost Broke it i was so pissed for not taking a shot and i was ahead $80 already ! Great story marquis!! It is one of those situations where it's hard to pull the trigger....i had a similar situation but not so much $$$ involved...that lead me to just bet the same numbers blind for awhile in exacta boxes like 3-5-6-8 regardless of the odds...but that's really not much fun...no sense of accomplishment

Robot, I do like to do my own handicapping, esp on harness racing, but on thoroughbreds where my handicapping skills are not as good I have had success with consensus picks - since newspaper handicapper tend to pick favorites and put their own personal choices in third or fourth slots, I have done what you said before. Use it as a factor, always remember that newspaper guys (some are good, some are very good, some aren't) usually have to submit their picks well in advance for publication and don't always get the benefit of knowing weather conditions, jockey changes, late scratches or additional entries, turf to dirt changes, etc. - but yes, I have sometimes been able to identify contenders with their "bottom" selections.

I don't have the time or talent to handicap the ponies. But on the occasions I do bet them--usually just a few times a year--I usually play the horse which has the fourth highest amount of money laid on him to win. I'll play the nag to win, place and show. The "system" --if you want to call it that--usually works out okay. It puts you on a horse that the "collective wisdom" says has at least a decent chance of winning --and at pretty good odds.
