The NYY loss was technically a 2 game series that went back to back. 2 away vs NYM and then 2 home vs NYM. Does this chase have to at least be a 3 game series? and game 2 away vs NYM, they were dogs at +115 and covered +1.5 with a 1-2 Loss. In another chase I've followed, interleague play has not had the same results as regular games. This may be something to look at as well.
Both ATL and DET's opponents (SD and LAA) each won at least 5 of their previous 10 games. Maybe that's something we can look at to filter out losses. I don't know if it would cut a lot of qualifying plays, but hopefully it will cut out the losses and not too many of the wins. We would need to know more teams that lost to try filter losses out more all together
