It's a funny thing how passionate some people feel for and, (usually) against provincial sports lotteries. I have read of government conspiracies, people wishing to commit acts of violence toward proline players, and moreover, a general disrespect for those posting in this forum, on more than one occasion. Some of which is funny, but a lot which is mediocre rambling at best.

For the record, I respect others opinions on proline. It's easy to see how the house has an advantage, with the player forced to pick 3 (or 2) games at less-than-competitive odds; nevertheless, that are at least 3 advantages to playing "proline" vs. online which I would quickly like to detail for you.

1 Legality. For some people this isn't a moral or legal issue, but admittedly there are some grey areas in online gaming, regardless of what country one resides. Proline is legal, and there's no fear of your account being frozen, hacked in to, or your bets limited.

    2. Immeadiacy. You win today, you cash tomorrow. Not exactly vegas, but as long as 7-11, has enough money in the till, you're paid. I really don't know how long it would take to make a cash from an online site, undoubtedly it varies from site to site, but I think we've all heard a story about someone waiting for a check. Further, there are a number of posts, written on this site, about cheques that have bounced which makes me feel somewhat leary.

    lastly, and most importantly...

    3. Odds that don't Adjust from Wed-Sun. I don't want to plug anyone's Sunday morning radio program, but there's a guy who does a segment called "Proline Value" in which he makes note of the major discrepancies between Vegas and proline. The spreads could be as far as 3-4 points apart by kick-off.

That's it. Fire away at me if you want. I can take it.

I don't think of myself as a proline player, more so an opportunist.

nice writeup fortunateson. I wholeheartly agree with you. Lets face it Proline is what it is and the player must realize that its parlay bet (one of the hardest to win) before dropping a dime on their bet. I love the fact as you have stated I go to 7-11 or Macs and cash my ticket. I've been doing this for a while now and I love capping and trying to find that perfect 3 or 4 game parlay.

Thanks cmac. I love capping too, although; i don't have enough time to cap every game. It's entertainment for me, not an investment.

I agree with those three advanatges, but ....

    1)  The juice is overwhelming.  I think I calculated it at the equivalent of -142 for a side.

    2)  It is legal, but you are limited to $100 a day.  I know it is easy to go to multiple stores to play more, but then it is no longer legal.

    3)  Limited Liability - the odds don't change, but they can take a game or prop off the board.

    4)  You said you had no problem getting paid, but I have had some difficulty getting tickets cashed in Niagara Falls.  Seems like if they see you coming with a winner they say their machine is broken.

Just my two cents, and I still like to play a few bucks on some tickets now and again.

    thorpe,

Isuggest you cash at a casino if you're in Niagra Falls, they are known to have proline tickets, and more than a few dollars.

Haven't seen any games taken off the board this year in the nfl, but you're right it can happen.

Lastly, if you're spending more than $100 dollars a day on proline, will you please add me to your Christmas list.

The casino doesn't cash Proline.  They have their own game, which I greatly prefer because the odds are much better, which has a $1000 limit per product.

I am talking more about the NFL Props, which go off the board all the time.  They call it "Limited Liability".  IMO, the Props are by far the easiest Proline wager to win.  With the props, them making you parlay works to your advanatcge, because you can take a QB under and put the WR under on the same ticket.  No online book would let you parlay two props for the same game.  Another good one is FG's made under and long FG under (or vice versa).  or you can do the QB over and the RB under (if you think the team will be playing from behind)

I rarely spend more than $100 on Proline, but if there is a prop card I like, I would like to bet more if I knew it would be easy to cash the tickets.  It is a 30 minute drive and a 15 minute walk for me to get to Canada, so I only go maybe 10  times a season at the most.

With all the guys on Covers betting $20,000+ a game,   $100 is not that much.

It would seem every province is different, because in Alberta you can buy and cash; poor assumption on my part that you could cash in Ontario, but I thought i had heard stories about windsor casinos selling tickets.

Casino betting and sports wagering to me is apples and oranges. There is a better chance of winning a hand of blackjack than a four team parlay, but I think there is a greater entertainment value in capping a game a seeing through until its conclusion.

It's good to know you rarely play proline bets over 100, because as we all know, parlays are dubious bets at best: it's hard enough picking one game let alone 4. I think most people lay down their larger single bets online, which may include you.

I'm a small timer compared to many on covers who, as you say, roll 20,000 a game, or 1,000 or 500. What I'd like is for people to forget how much they love the skins, lions or ravens, and compare vegas and their provinces odds. It doesn't matter that you hate the patriots (or whomever) it only matters where the line is set.

I can't imagine the christmas gifts the guys who bet 20,000 grand give out. I wish I knew one. gl

Good read FS.  There are a lot of haters out there but for some PL is the only option.  Maybe no CC or online capabilities.

I too look for differences between spreads and like the pools cards.

    Proline vs offshore Books

offshore books- If you are a consistent winner- they cancel your account, they want losers

    proline- win all you want

offshore books-small percentage are reliable or outright scams

    proline-legit

offshore books- not regulated or monitored, no recourse if you are ripped off or if they don't pay. Not recognized by your goverment or laws

proline- monitored and regulated no rippoffs

offshore books- they can void bets if you win, say the line was bad or a mistake, if you lose- they keep the money no refund. risk being shut down with all you money in ther account

proline- you get paid if you win

offfshore books- can cost money to get your money out

    proline- cash anytime no fee

offshore books- bonuses are a scam require you to rollover money several times

    proline- no scams

    offshore books- odds always changing,

proline- locked in at 7 a.m. each day, easy to take advantage of changing lines

Offshore books- low limit maximum payout

proline- max per ticket $100,000 pool tickets can pay up to $800,000 single ticket, better than most offshores

off shore books- your losses fund drug cartells and terrorists

proline- your losses go to charity

Proline the the easy winner for me. People play proline for there own reasons, each gambler is in a different situation financially, family obligations and time wise. So people stop trying to look smart by telling them how great offshore betting is and how bad proline is.Just keep sedning you money overseas.

Glad to see someone posting about this. Proline's discrepancies have often made me wonder about moving to an online sportsbook but have always worried about legitimacy, legality etc.

Hate to say this but there are definitely anywhere from 2 to 5 rookie bettors above this post of mine. you guys haven't experienced the bullshit the proline people have pulled from time to time over the years. give it a chance; in time you'll agree it's a complete and total ripoff. unless they the OLG have the decided advantage, the game is a no-go. Ever hear of a regulation hockey game that lasts sixty-five minutes in length? Proline actually invented it a few years back when they caught on to the fact that the players were gaining a decided advantage in picking ties based on the normal sixty-minute games. So they added five extra minutes on to the length of a regulation game to infringe upon the player's chance of picking tie winners. believe me fellows, I've can tell you plenty more........Good luck!

    pinballwizard,

I'd like to address your line, "unless they (olg) have a decided advantage, the game is a no-go."

With regard to pointspreads and totals, this may not be the case. Obviously, the lotteries must set a line, and you pick which side you want to place your wager. If you think the line is off, you take advantage; sometimes it works, while others times..not so much.

I'm not sure if it will make you feel better, but the alc and wclc (I think) have included ot at least for the past 15 years in ties. At least you have the + 2 option, giving you 5 choices for each game: something the west doesn't have.

Proline is recreation, not a money making device. For anyone thinking about an investment, they should buy some art, antiques or autos and maybe not the raptors, oilers and magic. GL

It`s all about looking for positive opportunites. Last season for example, I took 3 hockey dogs on one ticket that paid: 2.30 proline (2.00 pinnacle), 2.20 proline (1.95 pinnacle) and 2.00 proline (1.75 pinnacle) for combined odds of 10.12, instead of 6.825 online at pinnacle. I ended up winning with a HUGE edge in odds. Of course I could of lost, but I liked the 3 games that had an edge and gambled with an edge.

These opportunites don't come around often and that's why I wont play proline very much. But when proline offers better odds than Vegas or pinnacle, and I like the chances of given teams winning, I will play and have an edge regardless if I win or lose.

I do not play a proline ticket every day.  I do look at the odds though and make plays when I think that it is to my advantage.  I do like the point spread - and have had some success on the college basketball this year.

But the payout is painful.  I do use a local and have had an online account for years.  I have never had any problem with payouts.

If Ontario proline goes online, I hope the payouts are closer to a book than the BC sports lottery is.

College BB spreads are where its at.  Love the line differences.

Last night, 3 teams on PL were favored the opposite of Vegas.

    Love it.

It's good to know that I'm not alone in my opportunistic nature.

It's boring work, at times, checking Milwaukee Bucks totals, or the spread between Golden State and whoever, but I like to think that when I feel like I'm working...I am actually doing something productive as opposed to picking, which for some is entertaining in and of itself.

I agree with Allbutbroke, there are many advantages/opportunities to be found on pro-line, you just have to know how/when to find them, and not be a degenerate and chase it everyday!

Proline sucks. Yeah, so you get paid the next day if you are lucky enough to win. Baseball ties is what really burns me, you essentially have to pick a RL, a basketball tie is bogus too. Hard enough to win a damn game by itself, but you have to make sure a baseball team wins by two runs and a basketball team wins by more than five? SCAM!!!!! Would only play totals,

You get better edges on the long parlays. Play 10 game parlays on proline and if you lose one game you get 20x your bet.
