Hey boys i know its a while away now but the NRL markets have just gone up for 2009. I think the two teams to back are Cronulla @ $9.00. They will learn from this years experience and with trent barrett coming into the team i think we could see the sharks get there first GRAND FINAL win! The second team i will be backing is the St.george dragons @ $17.00. I think with all this new stock coming into the dragons $17.00 is laughable. I hounestly thought they would be around the $8.00 mark. Its early days but i will be having a sneaky punt on these 2 teams some time this week

Cronulla? Not while Stuart is coach, not while they have no front row, not while their best half is the wrong side of 30, not while the Captain has a tendency to give away penalties and drops the ball

Premierships are won in the front row, the halves and in the coaches box.

Sorry mate so you are saying stuart is a bad coach

    Are you serious?

As for the halves Trent Barrett is a much better half than kimmorley! I would make that swap anyday of the week. So the halves really do not worry me.

They also have big $$$ to spend with the loss of Greg "ima deadshit" Bird, Iam really confused by your comments on no forward pack? They are not a bunch of big name players(forward pack) but they stood up time and time again this season and were probably in all fairness the 4th best pack behind storm, manly, brisbane so i beg to differ second again

Bet the Sharks to make the 8 or make the 4 but not to win the premiership.

Trent Barrett at 31 (?) isn't going to waltz on back from England and deliver that club a premiership.

Yes, I am saying Stuart cannot coach. His gameplan against Melbourne proved it.

The Sharks best player over the second half of the season was Kimmorley. Barrett is going to have to be something special to improve the team. He has never shown he is at the elite level (except in Origin when he played outside A.Johns and I could have looked good). Seymour played well, but needs to prove his consistency.

Their front row is weak. That is where the game begins, and Ben Ross, Kade Snowden and others are not in the top 8 front rows, in fact, it is laughable

Stuart cannot coach? Mate you obviously have been living on another planet for the last 10 years!!!!

One game vs Melbourne Doesnt define your whole coaching carrer !

I am not even going to discuss this with a person who says Stuart can't coach because obviously you have NO IDEA at all and you need a good slap in the face as a wake up call .

SECOND AGAIN your comment on STUART is just DUMB!!!

my opinion of Ricky Stuart comes from a number of factors

    1) His attitude towards his players. How many half backs and hookers has he gone through?
    2) His games plans are built around a 2002 paradigm. The game has moved on
    3) most importantly, the opinions of players who have played for him and against him, and the opinion of an opposition coach. The biggest issue all of them have is that he tries to make his players fit his ideas, instead of building his ideas around his players. Just look at how the Broncos evolved other the players, dependent on thier list

Bring up any numbers you like, including premiership wins. Have a look at that 2002 team, I could have coached that team. Or his efforts for NSW when A Johns came back and saved his ass?

And I suppose you don't want to mention his 2005 and 2006 seasons with the Roosters?

That one game will go close to defining stuarts career. Melbourne were in a vulnerable state away ftom home and missing their leader. They were weak up front and Stuart decided to ignore this and go wide? He gave up Cronullas chance to finally get that premiership.
Stuart will be gone from the Sharks sooner rather then later and he will never coach in the NRL again

And his 47-51 record in the NRL since the retirement of Brad Fittler isn't too flattering either

my opinion of Ricky Stuart comes from a number of factors

I think the Cowboys at $15 (sportsbet) is great value.. On paper the Cowboys have a great team but injuries to key players this year gave them no hope (thurston, bowen, o'donnell, webb, southern just to name a few). Keeping majority of this years  players next year and gaining Willie Tonga and Kaufusi. New coach in Neil Henry.. I rate them as a big chance..

So let me get this straight one more time second again because i cant quite seem to get my head around this?

So all the Aussie selectors dont know anything and just selected Ricky Staurt as the AUSTRALIAN coach because he can't coach?

I can see the logic in that

Mate sometimes in peoples lifes they are wrong and this is one of those times FOR YOU!

Ricky Stuart will have the coaching job at the sharks for the next 5 years atleast!

future bet for 2009 would be tigers to win the wooden spoon.

have at look at the year 2001 when knights won the premiership, 4 years later, they win the spoon, panthers win in 2002 and 4 years later they win the spoon, roosters win in 2003, 4 years later, they came close to winning the spoon(2nd last). the doggies win the premiership in 2004 and in 2008, they get the spoon, tigers win the premiership in 05 and in 09...........?

    hey, we never know.

I don't think Rod is brown nosing me. In fact, I don't believe we've ever spoken

Nice to see stuart is original in his gameplans for australia. Watch them inside the opp. 20. They play to the left side and use the exact same play Brisbane has been using for a couple of years.

Stealing other teams plays = great coaching

My point was that this Australian team is so much better than the rest of the world given the quality from 1-13 that the coach is irrelevant. So to correlate Australia's performances in this tournament to the ability of the coach is not even an argument IMO.

Same can be said about the QLD origin team and Mal Maninga - do you think big Mal is a good coach just because QLD have bitchslapped NSW for the past few seasons?

AP, this isn't my argument so don't think I'm having a crack at you. But I'll raise a couple of points that I have after reading this thread:

I haven't followed Barrett that closely since he went to England, but unless he has improved out of sight I could never say he is a better half than Kimmorley. He has always been a ball runner, not a ball player and has nothing on Kimmorley's organisational kicking game. I think Cronulla will miss Kimmorley a lot.

As for Stuart, I don't think it is a valid argument to say that Australia belted NZ / Eng and therefore Stuart is a great coach. Would the scoreline have been any different if Bellamy, Sheens or Bennett was coaching them? I doubt it. I think when a coach gets handed the best footballers in Australia, his job is simply to make sure that everyone knows their role, that morale is good and maybe give a stirring speech about how much we hate the said Kiwis / Poms before kick-off.

Most of the tries Australia have scored this tournament have been down to individual brilliance, not set trick plays.
