Yeah, don't laugh. Girlfriend's going to make me watch this dreck, so I might as well combine my love of sports betting with my love of movies by making 1 or 2 prop bets on the Oscars for shits and giggles. I use Pinnacle and there are some juicy odds.
My approach is to identify which categories has the best chance for an upset. I think Natalie Portman is the consensus Best Actress winner for Black Swan, and Christian Bale seemingly has a lock on Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter, although I think Geoffrey Rush for The King's Speech has a good shot over Bale.
I like Hailee Steinfeld to win Best Supporting Actress in True Grit as an underdog. Her role was technically a lead, but her chances of winning increase when placed in the Supporting category.
There also seems to be some division with which is Best Picture since there are 10 nominees, and Best Director with Tom Hooper for The King's Speech, and David Fincher for The Social Network being the 2 front runners.
Anyone else betting the Oscars or have some insights?
