February 20, 2005 -- In perhaps the strongest evidence to date that former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton are headed for a presidential showdown, a group of influential conservatives said yesterday they expect the two New York pols to top their parties' tickets in 2008. Of 15 potential nominees to choose from, 19 percent of Conservative Political Action Conference attendees said they expect "America's Mayor" to be the GOP's choice. Although the poll of 641 people didn't measure personal preferences, it was still surprising that conservatives — not known as fans of Giuliani's stances on abortion and other issues — expect Rudy to be squaring off in the general election. Newly appointed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was right on Giuliani's heels, with 18 percent. Three GOP senators — John McCain (Ariz.), George Allen (Va.) and Bill Frist (Tenn.) — were tied with 11 percent. Things were not nearly as close on the Democratic side, where 68 percent predicted Clinton would be her party's nominee. That would be like the spurs playing the hawks in the nba finals.

i cant see hillary running. the dems should have learned that they need someone that can carry at least one southern state. that means someone from the south or someone thats seen as religious. kennedy/carter = religious, clinton/johnson = southerners. running hillary would be suicidale.||an_cannon.gif' border=0>

i would like it to be mccain, someone who isn't in thrall to the bible thumpers, but i suspect crush is right and it will be jeb bush. i think there are enough personal eccentricities in giuliani's closet that cooler heads with power will derail any run he might make; he doesn't always toe the "family values" line in his policies or his personal life. i'd like to see clinton/obama vs mccain/powell just for the entertainment value, but it won't happen.

Hilary Clinton couldn't possibly win more than 5 states. Hilary running for president would be suicide for the Dems. My money is on Frisk for the GOP, and Al Gore to come out of the woodworks for the Dems. I must note than I have futures bets on Gore 100/1 odds and Arnold 500/1 odds to run for president. ||thumbs_up.gif' border=0>

the dems and rep might work together. the rep want to change the constitution to run arnold and the dems want to be able to run a president that has already served 2 terms. of course that sound crazy, but you never know. Clinton vs. Bush in 2008

If Arnold ran against Gore I would be in for a payday ||win.gif' border=0> I think Arnold is an unlikely candidate but you never know what could happen in 4 years. Frisk and Rudy are much more likely candidates for the Reps. Gore is a little bit of an outside shot too, but it's not like the Dems have any solid candidates anyway. Don't tell me Hilary is a solid candidate. ||an_shake.gif' border=0>
