I think belly putters help people enjoy the game more so why not just stop all the illegal putter debate? Ever tried one?

Considering that the powers that be let players use these things for this long I do not see how or why they would take them away. I am glad to see guys who were struggling to make cuts because the putting was so bad finally start to play better because they found something that works for them.
IMO the better the golf being played the more enjoyable it is for me to watch. Who wants to see a gut hit it 300 yards down the middle then hit a laser like iron shot to 6 feet only to miss the putt over and over, just look at Ernie Els this year i mean come who doesn't want Big Easy to find a way to get it in the hole the way this guy hits it.

I play a lot of competitive golf and I think the belly putter and long putters are not good for the game. I dont really care but it just takes away from traditional golf and it also becomes a money issue. To get a belly putter or long you need to go thru testing to get fit properly which just cost more money. Thats no good. Golf is already a rich mans game. I mean its same way nowadays with drivers. Correct shaft etc helps so much. I just like the idea of simple conventional golf.

For as many guys who you see putting well with the belly , there are just as many who struggle with it........ you just never hear about these guys.
Bad putter gets frustrated with conventional putter
Bad putter tries belly putter
Bad putter makes everything for the first two weeks
Bas putter eventually goes back to his old ways, get's frustrated and goes back to conventional putter.
Repeat for the next 10 years.

I think if they should have banned it way sooner, IMO it is too late and almost unfair for the players who have practiced and gotten good at it. Would you rather Webb Simpson shoot 66 or 72? Do we want to see great golf or would we rather have 8-10 guys go from being top players with the belly putter to struggle to make cuts and top 125 status.
The more low scores the better for my entertainment fellas....

The argument that it's too late to change this is ridiculous. We banned Sam Snead and all golfers from putting facing the hole with the ball between your feet.
I've been using the same putter that I've had since I was 14 (now 31) and I have good days and bad days. It's not the putter, just the golfer but use a real goddamn putter.. not one of these contraptions.

The putter is a stick used to hit a ball and as with all such games (with the exception of some Asian ping-pongers - but is that really sport?), the thumbs should be pointing down the shaft of the stick as in baseball, hockey, cricket, tennis etc AND 99% OF GOLF!
You don't need to ban these putters you just need to have a rule that says the thumb must point down the shaft!
Regardless of what putter is used, contrary to MrBogey, I love seeing great golfers miss 6 footers!

Im also a purist of the game. Even have a 2 iron instead of 3 wood and reckon belly putter has to go. By anchoring the putter it takes a bad stroke out of the game when the nerves kick in and the hands start to shake. It happens to us all and is part of the game. being able to overcome that and make the good stroke is what its all about. And yes we all want to see low scores but at the same time makes me feel good when see a pro miss a 6 foot putt.
Just my 2 cents worth but hey.

Just my 2 cents worth but hey.
Never really had that problem but now I see why one would use this odd looking thing. I got hands like a European hockey star so it's not really a worry.
