Excellent time to put a play for Boston ML on either game 4 or 5. Great value bets (should be around +500 ranges again), they will win 1 of those 2 games in LA. If they can win 2 in Detroit, and judging how well they've played on the road since the Detroit series then in my mind they won't get swept in LA.

Well . . . as much as I hate to admit it, I can't help but feel a dark Pall was cast over the NBA tonight about the officiating.
I've never really gone in for the conspiracy theories but I have to admit that after tonight, I'm not so sure any more.
The only thing that really explains the excessively heavy fines the league hands down for any complaints anyone has about the officiating -in my mind anyway- is if the league had something to hide. Doesn't that make perfect sense?!
And I hate to admit that, but even as a Laker homer, I've always felt there was something really strange about game 6 of that Lakers/Kings series. Every single time Shaquille went to the hole he got the call in that game and the officiating played a very big role in the outcome of that series.
Could Jeff Van Gundy more obviously been protecting his job for tonight. He blatantly contradicted his own position by admitting that he felt at the time that Yao Ming was being singled out but that he didn't want to give any creedence to Tim Donaghy's comments . . .
What?! How can you say those two completely opposite things in the same breath?!
And if we're going to go ahead and roast Donaghy and accept that his testimony about his own game fixing is true, then why the hell wouldn't we believe what he's saying about the other officials?
You can argue that he's trying to lessen his sentence but he's already really, really screwed and it's not going to help him that much.
Alright . . . I hate this but I just feel like someone has to say something about it. I'm looking at David Stern in a completely different light right now.
And the saddest thing is that all of the announcers and analysts that are asked to comment about it are doing everything they can to protect the league and make this whole thing go away- their answer is robotic: "he's a convicted felon, why should we believe anything he has to say?"
Then why are you convicting him?
It's like the steroid thing in baseball right? Everybody just wants it to go away.
Alright . . . . enough. I just feel a little bit foolish - like another small layer of naivety has been stripped away. Like you did when you learned about Santa Claus and the IRS . . .
As far as basketball goes, I'm even more convinced that this series is over. The only help Kobe got tonight was from Sasha Vujacic.
As soon as the Boston series line comes out tomorrow pound it for all it's worth.
The Laker front line got absolutely destroyed AGAIN tonight in the most embarrassing way and the Lakers were extremely fortunate to win this game and it might be the only win they get in this series.
Yes, they did a better job on defense and yes, Kobe did a job on Pierce and small ball worked sometimes, but still . . . Boston's the better team - period and you think when this thing goes back to Boston and they don't get the benefit of those calls that they'll be able to overcome both the Celtics and the refs?
And what, in God's name, was Lamar Odom doing at the end of the game by taking the ball to the rack instead of running out the clock and WINNING THE FRIGGIN' BASKETBALL GAME?!? How long has this guy been playing basketball now??? How many years?

Just to give credit where credit's due - I'm actually very happy for Paul Pierce. Dude labored away forever, jacking up 3's with employee #8 for years in futility.
And now he's got an awesome team around him and when (ahem . . if) they win this series they all really deserve it.

What the trend shows is this. Boston's performance throughout these playoffs has not improved from Game 3's to Game 4's. The total has declined in each of Boston's 3 previous playoff series. Although both Garnett and Pierce had a terrible game in Game 3; the same can be said for both Gasol and Odom.
I hate the fact that the line continues to be overinflated. I lost big taking my Lakers in Game 3. There is no value right now in giving points when the spread is so high, especially when realistically the games could go either way.
My early lean is that the best bet for game four is:
UNDER 192
0
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals:
Game 3 BOS 93ATL 102 -------> total 195
Game 4 BOS 92ATL 97 -------> total 189
Easterm Conference Semifinals:
Game 3 BOS 84CLE 108 -------> total 192
Game 4 BOS 77CLE 88 -------> total 165
Easterm Conference Finals:
Game 3 BOS 94DET 80 -------> total 174
Game 4 BOS 75DET 94 -------> total 169
NBA Finals:
Game 3 BOS 81LAL 87 -------> total 168
Game 4 ?????????????????????????????????

agree with you angrytiger... although i have felt for years that Stern was shady and it has always been obvious that he is lying like a politician when these things come up...
you didn't even mention the most obvious example of contradiction in this story tonight...
while interviewing Stern about it, he was talking about how Donaghy is just drumming up issues that had come up in the past and were already resolved, clearly suggesting he was aware of the incidents that had been brought up (Lakers-Sac game 6 in particular, which involved an investigation by Ralph Nader)... but then when she said, "so you're aware of the game 6 from the Lakers-Sac series that is being referred to?"... and he starts stammering and ends up saying, "no... i haven't taken a look at the notes yet"...
Stern has no integrity, as a person, and that means we shouldn't be surprised that he has none as a commissioner...
also, notice that both Stern and the league of officials not only made direct attacks on his character, but also both showed a sense of arrogance and hostility... these are dead giveaways of an organization of people who 1) have something to hide, and 2) are accustomed to intimidation...

Alright guys I dislike the whole donaghy thing too, but come on man "death of the nba" lets not get all crazy now. Steroids didnt kill the MLB
I agree and disagree. Steroids were/are a fact of baseball and some of the biggest names in the game will be tainted forever and it will squash their HOF chances, but the game has recovered more or less be cause it is "America's pastime" and has been preordained as much for as long as I can remember. People enjoy going out to a game, enjoying the summer weather, etc.
As for the ThugBA it already is the lowest or close to lowest watched major sport (not 100% boys and girls, but do know the NBA and NHL are close) You have the aforementioned post that tell part of the reason, and you have the way the game is played, the players of today, the way international teams beat the USA regularly, etc that contibute to this decline.
Point is the NBA is not now nor has it ever been close to MLB in popularity (and yes you had the Bird/Magic years and the Jordan era that did very good) so it is like comparing apples to oranges.
Very, and I mean VERY few of the crowd I hang with watches or pays attention to the NBA at all.

Yeah, naw I'm not predicting "the end". You're right, if the MLB survives steroids, the whole questioning of the record books, and the strike, then basketball survives this.
A friend of mine suggested last night a wholesale clearing out of this particular group of referees would help, and that's probably extreme, but I sincerely hope someone goes back over those tapes and puts somebody's feet to the fire. Because the proof is right there. You and I saw it years ago.
And again, I just hate this because now we're "conspiracy theorists" right? - when in fact we're just smart people watching some serious weirdness going down on the court and knowing that there's humans and money involved. Another friend of mine said one time: "My God, if the refs called the game they actually see, instead of the game they imagine they see, professional basketball would a beautiful thing." How funny in retrospect.
Basketball is a beautiful game and these players that bust their asses day in and out and for God sakes you and I and everyone else investing our time and money in it because we love it deserves it to be fairly officiated. Because when it's right it's oh sooo good.
Alright . . . again . . . I know this is a handicapping forum and I hate being that guy so I'm gonna' do my best and talk basketball now.
I see your post up there thinice but I don't know. There are certain Lakers who are proving to be simply ineffective in this series.
Anyone else notice that Phil had nearly the entire bench in the game in the 4th quarter? Playing better than the starters? And I don't it was just about foul trouble. Lamar Odom is a NON-FACTOR in this series. Pau Gasol is still getting PUSHED around in this series.
The only dudes playing like men for LA are Kobe, the guards, and Rony Turiaf. And you obviously can't say enough good things about Sasha Vujacic.
LA's going to have to continue to play a lot of small ball to have any chance in this series and that's not gonna' work forever. The Lakers did play better defense but you could just feel Boston exerting their will.
This is a learning series for LA. Some of these guys are getting valuable experience and the other guys who are proving to be mentally soft are becoming exposed. At this point, I'd love to see them move Vladimir "space cadet" Radmanovic next season and bring in some muscle instead. And I've made every excuse in the book for Lamar because he's just so loaded with talent but after what he pulled last night in that last possession . . . . he'd better show Laker fans something real before this series ends.
I agree, once again, the line is totally jacked because they know that people will pay bank for the Lakers.
I'll be mulling for a while on the spread but I wouldn't be surprised if Boston wins game 4 outright.
Meanwhile, no more over/unders for me. I respect you guys like the moneymaker and the ridah who seem to have a bead on that bet but I just don't.

Did anyone else wonder what the hell was going on when Boston didnt foul at the end of the game??? They were only down by 6 pts! So far in the course of 3 games you have one game where the refs give one team 28 more free throw attempts and now you have a team giving up and throwing in the towel with plenty of time left on the clock and only a two possession game.
Seriously is anyone ready to crown a champion here? Something really crazy is happening in the NBA.
Also please dont tell me you guys are really surprised by the accusations of Donaghy?? This is something that has been obvious by anybody who has capped the NBA for a long long time.

Could not agree more. Instead of taking the high road and saying something to the effect of "the referee in question has admitted wrongdoing and though it may be hard to accept what he says, the NBA absolute must look into these allegations. The integrity of the game depends on it." Of course that did not happen for the very reasons you point oit GoG

Don't jump all over LA in this one yet folks. Are we not remembering how terrible of a game Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett had? Don't expect to see that again!
Yes, the Lakers looked more "aggressive" going to the rim and whatnot, however the "refs" will call this one more even now that they feel they have squared up from Game 2.
I agree with Kama about both of these games are good games to put ML on Boston, especially if its in the same range of +450 or so. If they hit either one of Game 4 or Game 5 you'll recoup plus win big.
I haven't even looked at the spreads or anything yet on this game but I'll be back soon with EARLY LEAN.

won me some cheese last nite on the under!!! thats 2 in a row. i knew the under would go down but im hesitant for the under in game 4. boston will be ready to play! they almost won last nite( big help from allen) but if 2 out of the three show up which i think they will. they should win this game. game 5 will probly go 2 the lake show because thats thier last game at home and they wanna go back to boston. this should be celts game right here to lose. they covered every game in the series, KG and peirce had their bad game. i think they will come out wit a vengence in game 4. dont see both of them havin a horrible game 2 in a row. probly Boston ML and boston 7.5.....bank it all day

Being objective as possible right now...I did not see a single thing in Game 3 that would be cause to believe the Lakers have a chance in this series. We all knew that Game 1 was going to the Celtics and Game 3 was going to the Lakers. I predicted a double digit victory in both games, the Celtics lived up to their end of the deal, the Lakers did not.
With the help of the referees, the home court advantage, and Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett combing for 8-35 from the field, the Lakers were still down in the 4th quarter, and needed Kobe Bryant to once again did them out of a hole. That is not a championship team. That is a team that is grossly over-matched.
Lakers fans please step up and give me ONE reason why they will win this series based on what we have seen so far? Kobe Bryant? He played just about as perfect of a game as he can play...shot 60% from the field, played great defense without getting in foul trouble, and took the game into his hands in the 4th quarter. That doesn't count as a reason, because Kobe is going to be there no matter what. As a basketball fan, and someone who has been around the game my entire life, I can't honestly see the Lakers winning more than 1 more game.
Gasol/Odom are non-existent. There is just no way to deny this. They are not going to suddenly figure out how to score either because they are being banged around and beat up. Something the Lakers haven't faced yet in the playoffs, a team that can beat them up down low.
Fisher is tired of chasing after Rondo for an entire game. He has 12+ years of experience on Rondo, and can't handle the extended minutes. He was huge in Game 1, and has seen a steady decrease in shots/points....Game 1 he was 4-9 with 15 points...Game 2 he shot 3-8 with 9 points...Game 3 was a pitiful 1-6 with 6 points. His minutes have also decreased from 40-29-28 in each game.
Like I said before, I bet on the Lakers in Game 3, I fully expected them to win by 15-25 points. With the early advantage from the refs mixed with the home court advantage and Kobe Bryant shooting lights out and getting to the line 15 times....that easily should have been a 20 point win. But it wasn't. The Lakers just don't have it this series because they just don't match up well with the Celtics.
Kobe on Pierce worked nicely for this game, but what happens when the refs don't allow him to reach in? What happens when Pierce starts driving to the hole on Kobe and starts hitting shots? This method worked for one game, I don't see it being a solid thing though.
KG once again proved that he can get any shot he wants against Gasol/Odom. He just didn't make shit in that game. Easily the worst game I have seen him play all season.
Early inclination is that this line is over-priced once again by about 3-4 points. Lakers looked like shit, and were lucky to get away with a win. Celtics looked like uglier shit, and still had a shot to win.
Once again...LAKER FANS PLEASE GIVE ME ONE REASON OR ONE FACT OR ONE TREND THAT YOU SAW IN ANY GAME THAT GIVES ME REASON TO BELIEVE THEY HAVE A SHOT

And once again I repeat...Celtics win Game 4...Lakers win Game 5 with their "backs against the wall" and the Celtics wanting to win on their home floor.
THE NBA IS HARD TO PREDICT!! - Jeff Van Gundy
That is becoming my favorite quote by the way. Someone should lead him into these forums where myself and others do it on a daily basis.

Checked the cost of a season ticket lately?

Seriously is anyone ready to crown a champion here? Something really crazy is happening in the NBA.
Also please dont tell me you guys are really surprised by the accusations of Donaghy?? This is something that has been obvious by anybody who has capped the NBA for a long long time.
Tickets to much
Attendance down, It all has to do with money.( Example: Pacers)
Checked the cost of a season ticket lately?
7th game??????, bet on it. I hope I'm wrong on this.
And once again I repeat...Celtics win Game 4...Lakers win Game 5 with their "backs against the wall" and the Celtics wanting to win on their home floor.

That is becoming my favorite quote by the way. Someone should lead him into these forums where myself and others do it on a daily basis.
In Game 4 you need to take into consideration that the Lakers have played 3 shitty games in row in this series thus far. Well we can at least we can say they have not played their best anyway. Hell, even last night Kobe missed what was it.... 7 from the free throw line?!!? The Lakers are due to have a GREAT breakout game and I believe it will be Game 4 to tie the series up 2-2. It is not like the Lakers to score only 87 points at home and still win. I'm predicting they score between 110 and 120 in game 4. They now know exactly what they are going to see from the Celtics and know exactly what they have to do to get the points on the board in game 4. It really takes Games 1, 2, and 3 to figure out your opponent. Hey I may be wrong, but Lakers go 10-0 at the Staple Center Game 4.
and by the way Hommie, I LOVE the Celtics Final Series Price right now. It's Lakers -120 and Celtics -110. I am Loading up on the CELTICS to win the Series at -110. That my friend is a bargin, steal, and Free Money. But as far as Game 4 goes. Lakers.
