A flat tax doesn't change the main problem. The loopholes that allow for the reduction of taxable income are far too vast and create way too much disproportion in taxation. Businesses, especially corporations, large or small, have too many methods of reducing taxable income. A flat tax doesn't change this, unless every single tax loophole is closed, which as most economists point out, would devastate the economy (at least in the short run). ![]()

Well.....
ok, so you are suggesting cutting all loopholes, which would include all tax credits correct?
You are also talking about eliminating other taxes. Now, revenue for the government is significantly reduced. But you have also cut down on businesses' basis for expansion. And without the tax incentives in place, benefits will be significantly reduced as well.
So the answer isn't complete elimination, but rather reform. But what...and where? Always the tough questions.
As an aside, accountants and attorneys for larger corporations are in-house. For smaller businesses, the costs aren't significant and they are deductable. ![]()

KOAJ,
First off you cant keep living in our Founding Fathers era about everything because the country cant be run like that, even our Founding Fathers would have to adapt to how the country and world has changed from when they were around.
Like your idea of asking the taxpayer if they want to pay 500 to bomb libya, you cant run a country like that, people would say no to everything and then our country would be a third world nation with no govt. Come on Koaj, you got to get out of the 1700's

Sorry but our Founding Fathers would be as lost as our politicians today are if they had to deal with 300 million people in the country and all the problems we have here and around the world.
Back then things were completely differnt with very little problems to deal with. They were a great starting block for the country but things in our country can never be the way it was back then, its just impossible. Society has completly changed from back then.

Yes Rick, its a great document but you would have to be insane to not think that our Founding Fathers wouldnt have had to change things in it if they were dealing with the world we live in now.
Every problem we have in todays society cant be solved by what took place in 1776, just like 100 years from now the problems people have then cant be solved by what were doing today. Society evolves each year with new and harder problems, all of which our Founding Fathers couldnt have even imagined. If they had to deal with the stuff we deal with today, am 100 percent sure they would have wrote things differntly.
Am a believer of living in the present time and each generation needs to do what it needs to do for the good of society. Sorry but you cant just say well they did it like this in 1776, i dont believe in that. I mean the population was like 2.5 million people back then, its now 300 million, that in itself creates an entirely differnt country.
Like i said we need to do whats best for the people in the year we are living in, whatever that may be.![]()
Take for example the second amendment for example, which iam a supporter of. Do you really think they wouldnt have written that amendment differntly if your average person had 50 round auto and semi automatic weapons in their house? Of course they would have.
In 100 years from now, that generation is going to need new laws and rules to deal with an ever changing society and thats just the fact![]()
