If someone buys the ingredients to make the cookie then makes it in an oven that they bought, why do they owe anyone any cookies?
What makes anyone entitled to said cookies?
Starwink, you and michael moore are of the idea that jobs and cash are "public resources" that everyone has a right to. I completely disagree with this assessment. I think it is childish and naive to believe that you are entitled to anything. You have to go out and get what you want.
Since you are an adherent to this philosiphy of wealth being a public good, please send me a check for $1,000.
I guarantee that I am poorer than you and have a right to any wealth that you have accumulated since it is a public resource. Please PM me for my address.
I can't speak for Michael Moore, but worker rights aren't open for debate.
As for your idea of "public resources" and the rights given, I have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

what are worker rights?
where do rights come from? if rights are given by man, can they be taken away by man?
seems that this is the problem with libs. rights can be granted by man but not taken when in reality they can be neither given nor taken by man. rights dont require others to be in indentured servitude
a good read
star - if worker rights can be granted by man, then they can absolutely be taken away...these werent rights at all, they were political goodies and kickbacks at taxpayer expense

do we stand with these guys as well? this is from NJ yesterday:
Monmouth County officials said the three employees suspended without
pay Thursday work for the county's Senior Citizen Area Transportation
service and are members of CWA Local 1038.
The county said the workers were among 14 in the department who called
out sick; officials alleged that 174 developmentally disabled adults
who depend on the county's services ended up "waiting for buses that
never came."
they were suspended...they should be fired

Tell me exactly what you think are Rights. The workers protection laws could be seen as rights, IE. you have the right to minimum wage or above, child worker laws etc.
What do you believe that workers rights entail. Healthcare? Dental? A house ? A car? A jacuzzi? A woman / or man to have sex with you?

In your model your left out the fact that the CEO sure as heck gets his cookies if the company tanks...its called a "golden cookie-sheet" which he most certainly negotiated when he was hired. So, when a company produces more and better products its not the worker doing it, its the CEO? Hm
i think i know why your views are so skewed, you think bc a handful of ceos (and theyve all worked at big corporations) received golden parachutes, that all ceos get them if their company fails. thats some amazing logic, where did you learn that at?

and another thing, why is it wrong for a ceo to collect on his contract even though it may be 'morally' wrong, but right for a union worker to do so?????

Nothing is a right if in the end, the point of a gun is used to get it.
KOAJ, VERY NICE ARTICLE, my 76 yr old retired teacher mother flew in yesterday. The discussions are lively and we always ask each other to read articles and then debate. She is a classic liberal but also with a serious IQ and it gets intersting. Lets see if she can dent any of his solid points.
Steveshane67, Joe Pockets is a useless commie. His posts/logic and view points are typical of a mob of redshirts rejoicing over some fat cat they pulled from his limo and curb stomped. Pointless to engage him. Very very limited cerebral resources at his disposal, really only a limp limbic system.

KOAJ, you have said this.. here in this Forum 50x's if you have said it once ... and all we ever hear is crickets ...
The only rights people have are to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness..a right to action, not to rewards from other people.
It's not a right if it imposes an obligations on other people..,. all you are guaranteed under your Constitution is the chance to work for what you want—not to be given it without any effort on your part ...
Today, some people believe because it exists and they want or need it ..they have a right to it with no action on your part.
People have no right to the actions or products of others, except on terms to which they voluntarily agree to give them to you ..... this goes back to your post ...rights that can be granted (not given ) by man can also be taken away by man ..e.g. Madison Wisconsin ........

taxation is theft...if you understand that to be true then you realize that government has legalized theft to benefit those who help them get elected or stay in power

The few plunder the many.
Everybody plunders everybody.
Nobody plunders anybody.
This system prevailed when the right to vote was restricted.
One would turn back to this system to prevent the invasion of socialism.
We have been threatened with this system
since the franchise was made universal.
The newly enfranchised majority has decided to formulate law
on the same principle of legal plunder
that was used by their predecessors when the vote was limited.
No legal plunder:
This is the principle of justice, peace, order, stability, harmony, and logic.
Until the day of my death, I shall proclaim this principle
with all the force of my lungs (which alas! is all too inadequate).

So my dear liberal mother digested the link in post 53. Her response was that collective bargaining is needed to prevent the employing government being oppressive to its workers(i paraphrase). And while she sees the injustice of Coll Barg with the politicians mandatory union dues elect, her counter is that the negotiations should take place with some impartial group. Doubt thats possible.
My mom taught for 40 years. She graduated from U of ILL magna juice loud and got a masters as well. Retired in massachusetts at in 1997 at a max salary of 36,500 and receives 23K in pension. Had she been born in 1950 or later she could have been a doctor/lawyer/CEO etc but none of that was available to women in her time.
I told her that her problem was that she never understood her true financial worth.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett asked his city's firefighters and police officers Friday to voluntarily accept the pension and health care concessions that the state budget-repair bill would force on most other public employee unions.
Without such concessions from the public safety unions, city officials would be forced to chop deeply into other services Barrett warned.
Ironically ..Tom Barrett, a Democrat, lost the Nov. 2 Gubernatorial election to none other than .......... (drumb roll please) Scott Walker,.... The statewide organizations endorsed Barrett in that contest, while the local unions backed Walker.

You are a strange person. Here I am, reading an article and showing it to a woman with a 160 IQ and getting her opinion on the subject and you choose to bash me. I posted her pro union response to the article and then pointed out that not every teacher is rolling in freaking dough per her financials and you say something stupid. As far as telling my mom anything, you clearly dont know the woman. You could have easily chosen any other post to disagree with me and perhaps sounded a bit more erudite than forrest gump.

Now why dont you stop acting like a big troublemaker and always trying to twist things into things they arent.
Hows your health?

No my point was you are on this site bashing people that collects public pensions, yet your very own Mother collects a public pension, which am sure she rightfully earned. Dont you find it kind of nuts for you to complain about other peoples pensions, yet your Mother recieves one.
Also why would have i chosen another post to disagree with you about when that post is the post that contained the info about your Mother getting a pension from being a public employee. Maybe you shouldnt bash other people for getting a public pension when you have one of your own family members collecting one.
Personally i cheer your Mom for being able to work a hard job and collect a pension for her time on the job, something her own son doesnt seem to understand.

CD, i realize you were not momma bashing My issue is with public service unions and collective bargaining with elected officials. Trust me, I have as much respect for her as a son could have. We have always chosen controversial topics, read articles or books and had debates on them, usually over bridge or rummikub games. I have a big family with homosexuals, liberals, rednecks, CEO's , musicians, writers, doctors and career military. There is ALWAYS respect and love. Primary issue. Our country is in a world of hurt financially Solutions. increase revenue, decrease spending. I am very much in favor of closing oil co loopholes and not letting google get away with 2.5% total taxes on the double dutch trick and all the other massive corporation tricks to avoid appropriate taxes. I am also in favor of eliminating all deductions and some sort of flat tax on all Americans Even with increased revenue we are in trouble and need massive cuts. Cities and states have chosen unfunded liabilities to the tune of 3 trillion for cities and 3 trillion for states. employee pensions account for the majority of that money. Military, close most foreign bases. Get our boys home fast from the land of bad things, Government, get much much smaller and out of the way. Borders, closed. Guest workers paying taxes if and only if needed when an able American cannot do the job. Meicine, ration or self pay Please at least read a review on "comeback America" the debt commission fairly well parroted it. njon partisan book.
Our debt is the defining issue of our time. Do we address it with brain power or emotion. all i see is partisan bickering.

CD , I have five kids from 4 to 21. I would like them to live in a land of opportunity, where hard work, ethics and brain power can get you ahead. I just dont see more government providing that but rather less.
As you fear enslavement to evil corporations and their pet politicians(which i do fear), I also fear an enslaving massive government where there are so many crazy rules and laws you're bound to break one just by waking up. A world where my fruits are not my own but some damn bureaucrats

First off thanks glad you saw there was no bash at all. One will never come out of my mouth ever.
As far as this post, theres lots of things i agree with you on here. My whole point has been you cant blame the worker for all the problems happening in the country. Also they need to start with the companies first and then work there way down to the workers.
Fisrt thing every single state needs to do to address pensions, is stop the fucking padding of pensions, this is whats causing probably 90 percent of the shortfalls. These systems were never designed to have people pay in one dollar, while taking out three dollars. This loophole needs to be closed and closed now, not tomorrow. Politicians need to get off their asses and stop this. I believe just doing this one thing, will take the taxpayer off the hook for alot of the unfunded pensions. Am a pro union guy all the way, but no way should anybody make more in retirement then they did working.
Your right its time to start closing these overseas bases and bring the troops home. Only reason we are all over the place overseas, is to protect the friggin oil. Why dont these energy companies stop playing games and just release the real new technologies that can power everything without us having to use oil anymore. At least thats my opinion. I think their sitting on, until all the oil is gone, then they will say here you go, your new energy source.
Yup flat tax is the way to go. Thye gotta close all these corporation loopholes, because they are not paying their fair share to running our country, like the rest of us are. They get all the benefits without the expenses.

I think their sitting on, until all the oil is gone, then they will say here you go, your new energy source.
Yup flat tax is the way to go. Thye gotta close all these corporation loopholes, because they are not paying their fair share to running our country, like the rest of us are. They get all the benefits without the expenses.
