an_ref "If we stopped Trading with every country that we have a Deficit with, which is most of them, we would make, at least, 1.5 Trillion Dollars a year," trump wrote in a Wednesday social media post.

Trump insists he will one day act on it. surprised

        Trump’s Latest Trade Threat
             Would Throw America
          Into A Massive Recession!

WASHINGTON – Donald Trump's latest trade threat would throw the country into a massive recession, ending economic relations with 95 countries and territories — from China to Tawain to Germany to Israel — while further exacerbating, not helping, the nation's budget woes.

             "It'd be catastrophic,"
said Scott Lincicome, a trade analyst at the Cato Institute.

"Markets would crater immediately. The US WOULD enter a recession!"

said University of Michigan economist Justin Wolfers, adding that the long-term effects would be even worse. "Fifty years later, the U.S. would be much poorer

Billionaire investor Cooperman expects an US recession in 2027 because of various reasons.  Low consumer confidence. High tariffs. Iran war. Trump wrecking economy.  Every decision he makes is wrong and worsens situation.  10 of the last 11 recessions happened under a republican president.

So many of these guys in this sector keep calling for a recession, including me from time to time.  I guess eventually everyone will be right.  But not so far.

    an_roll_laugh

The rest of the post is deceptive at best.  Who cares who was in office if their policies did not cause the recessions.  So, what if the Republican Presidents were the ones that had to deal with it.

Look at Wuhan Flu -- no President caused that.

Look at the housing crisis -- what policies caused that.

Tech bust -- did a President's policy cause that.

The rest you can pretty much blame on monetary tightening and a couple of oil shocks.

You pretty much have to go back to Ike to the military drawdown and decrease in military spending after the Korean War to, maybe, blame a Republican President.  But even that can be looked at Democrats askance because of their policies and a Democrat in office when the Korean War started.  So, the drawdown and spending simply happened under Ike.

The rest you can blame almost entirely on McChesney, Burns, Volker, Greenspan, Bernanke, and history will have to determine more on Powell.

But the FOMC has to eat a Lion's share of the blame for either causing, worsening, or extending just about all of them.

But to imply a President's policies caused a recession is hard to say without evidence.  Then you have to consider how Congress handled the spending and passing of bills.  Then you have to consider lagging effects of a prior President and Congress at that time.

Maybe there is a recession soon and maybe not.  Lots of folks 'think' there should be one or one is even 'needed'.  But time will tell because we have all been wrong about one so far.

Our resident maga should just come out and say what we all already know how he feels about trump.

"YOU LOVE TRUMP AND THINK HES THE GREATEST PRESIDENT IN YOUR LIFETIME"

Its amazing to watch you twist your backbone into shapes, just to find a way to defend the con artist in chief.

you should get a job on trumpys PR teaman_roll_laugh

hopefully someday magas all wake up from their TDS trance and realize that they all helped to hurt our countryan_brick

sorry wasnt talking about that with trump. I was referring to you turning your body into a pretzel to defend anything trump does. Trump must be the perfect human being to you and am sure hes your top idol in life.  Get his name tattooed on your forehead if it isnt already there. Its never failed on this forum, where somebody posts something trump has done and you will find a way to defend the guy. Its pretty comical and shows how easily you can be fooled and influenced by a con artist. I sure hope you hang up on the phone scammers, cause they might sell you that ocean front beach house in oklahoma

I doubt you can understand that the only fools that have TDS are the people who actually support this con artist.

What did I defend that he did?  There was nothing to defend in the post.

It was a guy's opinion about a looming recession.  The only thing I pointed out was a President rarely is the deciding factor.  I gave previous examples of why not.

So, to assume Trump alone might cause a recession is jumping to conclusions that are not backed up by what the poster was implying by using his 'investor' as an expert on it.

So, no pretzel was needed when facts and data easily do the job.

No, I don't understand that.  Trump Derangement Syndrome is not another word, or phrase, that can just be co-opted.

Whistleblower says Trump demanded FBI probe
into protesters over a TikTok he saw

[trump's Gestapo] opened preliminary investigations targeting anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protesters in Southern California, a former FBI intelligence official alleged in a whistleblower complaint, adding that she believed the move violated the law and agency policy.

an_lightThe protesters were using bullhorns to warn neighbors about the presence of immigration-enforcement officers, Fields’ disclosure said.

Federal budget deficit climbs to $2 trillion as fiscal jitters multiply

    T.Luhby -
The federal budget deficit rose to nearly $2 trillion for the past fiscal year, spurred in part by ballooning interest payments and trump-tariff refunds, the Congressional Budget Office reported Thursday.

The gap between the revenue the federal government collects and the amount it spends widened by $218 billion, or 12%, in the last fiscal year, which ended September 30. [all under trump]

Net interest payments on the public debt topped $1 trillion for the first time, driven up 11% by the nation’s skyrocketing debt levels and higher interest rates.[all caused by trump]

Since 1981, US deficit grew under republican presidents and shrunk under democrats.   US economy tends to perform better under democrat presidents.

    cool  FWIW,

I have placed VERY HEAVY BETS (at high odds!) on Dems taking control of the HOUSE (regardless margins). A blue wave yes, but not quite as large as many think.

    No Tsunami!

...but moderate sized bets on the corrupt/pro-fascism/largely-racist party (with Vance breaking ties) to keep very narrow Senate control.

an_police For America's sake, I actually hope I lose this Senate bet.  But by trading in my optimism for realism I reluctantly conclude the undeserving, pro-trumpism party will find a way to cling to Senate control (akin to an unearned run in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game)

A 50-50 tie in the upper chamber, it could be very well materialized, Fubah. Although one of the prediction markets give Dems 67% vs GOP 33% to control the US Senate after this midterm. So, your bet on the GOP should be a heavily underdog play. The payout from the underdog should be huge, if GOP wins the US Senate. Less than a week from the midterm elections, there will be many winners and losers for sure.

I like Dems to control the lower chamber after this midterm, good luck Fubah! clover

Yep.   The DEMS need to pickup 4 (net) Senate seats and I say they only get 3 at most, but maybe just 2.  The BADGUYS will keep control of the Senate while losing BIGLY in the HOUSE.

Dems only pick up N. Carolina and Alaska or perhaps Texas, Fubah? Dems are not going to win Maine and Ohio, in your opinion?

Although one of the prediction markets give Dems 67% vs GOP 33% to control the US Senate after this midterm. So, your bet on the GOP should be a heavily underdog play. The payout from the underdog should be huge, if GOP wins the US Senate. Less than a week from the midterm elections, there will be many winners and losers for sure.  I like Dems to control the lower chamber after this midterm, good luck Fubah! Dems are not going to win Maine and Ohio, in your opinion?

very surprised if the Dems wouldn't win in Maine

70% probability of democrats winning senate majority according to Poly market and Kalshi.   In addition to 4 states held by republicans, they need to hold onto Michigan, New Hampshire and Minnesota.  Best opportunities for democrats in North Carolina, Ohio, Alaska. Maine and Texas.

    Kansas Senate Election Winner 2026,

After the late surge, probability of Adam Hamilton (D) to win Kansas Senate Election against Roger Marshall (R) has tied at 50% in one of the prediction markets.

The last time a Democrat won a U.S. Senate seat in Kansas was in 1932, this race will also be closely watched on Tuesday.

    @fubah2

Breaking news, Democrat Haley Stevens has endorsed Mike Rogers two day prior to the 2026 Midterms.

This bombshell announcement could drastically change the Michigan in the US Senate race as well as which party will control the US Senate after two days from now?
