If it's an assault, then it's an assault and should be charged as such. According to wikipedia, FBI reported 3459 hate crimes against white victims during 2008-2012. But actual total is far higher because hate crimes are often under reported. Besides federal laws allowing for prosecution of hate crimes, 45 States have their own laws. Even the United Nations recognize hate crimes.
