Many corporations do not even pay taxes--ie--GE, but the middle class, the most vulnerable, pay the most taxes,

48% of Americans pay no federal income tax.

The idea the "middle class" pays all these taxes is a silly joke.

Cuts to Medicare and Social Secuirty--up to 21% by 2021, but NO cuts, or repeals to ANY tax breaks to the super wealthy or the Oil Industry,

    Medicare should be ended.

Social security should be means tested.

I love the left's obsession with "the oil industry." Really, I do.

Why aren't you calling for higher taxes on Hollywood movie studios?

Further, it is just bizarre that the first reaction of you people that is to raise taxes when their is a deficit. The "sacrifice" should come entirely from the government.

there is a moral issue to raising taxes

why does someone down on their luck have a right to the earnings of others?

what moral right does a corn grower have to my money?

i thought it was wrong for a person to benefit at the expense of another?

helping people should be a voluntary act free of gubmint coercion

So I guess the real question is how do we become part of the 48% that doesn't have to pay income tax? I really don't want to pay if the guy next to me isn't.

You win the stupid award.  Congrats.  The oil industry reaps MASSIVE profits year, after year, with tax breaks.  Nice.  Who do you believe finances government?  Wow.  You just CAN'T be this stupid.  No one, has still addressed the first comment.  Small wonder our politicians dance around the tough issues.  When put on the spot, most of you do too.

Break it down to the most simple comparison.

    NJ turnpike, PA turnpike..

Who pays more, the compact two axle or the semi?

Those who gain the most NET benefit pay more, so I see no reason that a corporation should pay less or none relative to the median earner.

OK bandit in my better judgement I will try to address your comment as you told me in an earlier comment that I didn't answer your question.  I stand up for republicans as much as I stand up for dems....I don't.  Beyond that, there wasn't much of anything but a rant.  A rant that I'm glad you have the right to give.  A rant that you can climb to the heights of Mt. OK I will play along ..

“Cuts to Medicare and Social Security--up to 21% by 2021, but NO cuts, or repeals to ANY tax breaks to the super wealthy or the Oil Industry, as proposed by our caring and GREAT republicans. “Great SHARED sacrifice  budget.

Well, at least the GOP offered one..still waiting for the DEM budget of shared sacrifice…Oh wait, they never put one together…..800 days and counting … They just vote down whatever budget comes out of the House and don’t present any alternative to avoid taking tough votes because there are  23 Democratic senators up for re-election in 2012.

Many corporations do not even pay taxes--ie--GE, but the middle class, the most vulnerable, pay the most taxes, and our govt, and the super rich--nobody here by the way--are phasing us out, to achieve cheap labor so they get even richer.   Thanks Rebups!!!  Wow.  If we don't do something soon, we will have another depression.

So what do the DEM'S do?..put together the ‘bipartisan” Gang of Six , spend exactly 12 hours and 42 minutes putting together a budget proposal that that DEM Senate refused to do for 800 days to try and counter balance Cut, Cap, and Balance....AND do you know what they offered in their proposal ? Specifically, on the tax cutting side of the ledger, they would permanently repeal the $1.7 trillion Alternative Minimum Tax, slash the corporate tax to a flat rate between 23%-29%, and establish three personal income tax brackets with rates of 8–12 percent, 14–22 percent, and 23–29 percent.

Corporate tax needs to be reformed..but why is that the GOP fault in your mind? The DEM's just has a super majority and could of passed anything they wanted to…but didn’t.

    Both groups are idiots..

The oil industry reaps MASSIVE profits year, after year, with tax breaks.

Um, GE reaps massive profits year after year.

    So does Apple.

    So does Microsoft.

Why aren't you calling for higher taxes on them?

Who do you believe finances government?

Um, the top 10% of income earners in America do.
    Clown.

PS, in 2008, the bottom 50 percent paid only 3 percent. Forty-nine percent of U.S. households paid no federal income tax at all.

Wow.  You just CAN'T be this stupid.

Notice you are calling names, not providing facts or data.
Want to guess as to why that is?

PS, the oil industry is the 2nd largest revenue generator for the federal government.

    Clown.

    You win the stupid award.

I'm not the one pretending the "middle class" funds the government.

    You are.

You are not that informed on these issues, obviously.

The oil industry reaps MASSIVE profits year, after year, with tax breaks.

Actually, the government reaps massive profits from the oil industry:

Since 1977, governments collected more than $1.34 trillion, after adjusting for inflation, in gasoline tax revenues—more than twice the amount of domestic profits earned by major U.S. oil companies during the same period

    Thanks for participating.

    WallStreet:

I heard this comment years ago: Corporations pay no taxes. Not oil companies. Not McDonalds. Not Fruit of the Loom. When the govt raises taxes on corporations corporations raise the taxes on their products to make up for the extra costs.

    mcbride,

the guy crosses the line all the time, there is a difference between a debate and slamming people. I think we enjoy discussing differing topics, not calling people stupid.

    canovsp,

Of course that is 100% true, but I was speaking of his gas tax comment of 1.34 T on gas tax. Last I checked the gas buyer is the one paying that tax.

seems like he takes as much as he dishes out... but Im not in here daily, and dont click on every thread in the politics forum.  I know you (the mods) have your hands full at times, especially in here where stuff can be quite polarizing.

I find it intriguing to see how emphatically people argue their point of view, knowing full well that the other side will never be swayed.  And in the meantime, I learn a thing or two...

it is curious why the luckylogan gets a free pass and is much more combative, along with homophobic slurs and racial rants

i guess 14daroad is only annoying you because he supports many of his views with facts, links, and thoughtful analysis

luckylogan, who never provides any thought provoking insight, he just spews hateful rhetoric

but he gets a free pass because his thoughts align with yours?

The oil industry reaps MASSIVE profits year, after year, with tax breaks.

    OOPS!

GE, reported a 21.6 percent rise in profit, topping estimates...2nd Q profit:  $3.69 billion.

Remember, G.E. skirted paying any taxes on $5.1 billion in profits in 2010--in addition to claiming a $3.2 billion tax credit.

    Remember, Obama's buddy runs GE.
