Prersident Donald J.Trump Proclaims October 9,2017,as Columbus Day..

Not Indigenous People’s Day...

The White House Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release October 06, 2017 President Donald J. Trump Proclaims October 9, 2017, as Columbus Day

In commemoration of Christopher Columbus's historic voyage, the Congress, by joint resolution of April 30, 1934, and modified in 1968 (36 U.S.C. 107), as amended, has requested the President proclaim the second Monday of October of each year as "Columbus Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 9, 2017, as Columbus Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I also direct that the flag of the United States be displayed on all public buildings on the appointed day in honor of our diverse history and all who have contributed to shaping this Nation.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-second.

It says "Columbus Day" on all of my calendars.  Not sure what the reason for this proclamation is.   Just a troll job I guess... that's what he's best at.

I guess it is not so obvious for many here, SS is trolling for replies it is easy to see.

So much like Trump, if you ignore these pathetic attempts then maybe he wont get the attention he wants.

I definitely wasn't wishing Sara a Happy Thanksgiving as I don't believe he/she is Canadian.

I just thought I'd throw out some turkey for the "EH" people out there in covers politics land.

I'm not really sure why I pop in here from time to time. I know posting here is an utter waste of time for the most part. You couldn't convince a hardcore "R" or "D" a fact is a fact if it goes against the reality that has been created in their mind. Sometimes opinion is just opinion and can't be proven as fact, but sometimes actual facts are facts.

For example...to keep it on topic. Columbus sailed across "BIG WATER" "OCEAN WATER"

Those are facts that can't be disputed unless one makes up their own reality.

You have years of head start on him, and fitting you say alter ego since to you everything is rated as to political affiliation rather than the purpose and content.

When he catches you, and it will take a very very long time please feel free to express yourself. I do not expect this will be an issue for a few presidential cycles however.

Notice my reply was not about conservative vs liberal or dem vs repub rather the intent of the message...I really do not think deep down that you side with Trump and his positions, rather you are selfishly supporting someone that supports your own personal agenda even when that person is a disgusting person as Trump is.

How anyone can applaud or celebrate the crap Trump does is astounding and thus it is just another ploy from you to incite and antagonize. You have done this a very long time, it is nothing new.

Why did you make the thread then? Are you in support of this decision from Trump, that you think Columbus is deserving given what he did and the abuses he was responsible for?

Of course even you would not support a day to remember someone that committed atrocities as Columbus did, or is it because of his silly religious beliefs that coincide with your own?

Try and deflect all day long, we know you like doing this...and you enjoy making threads to incite and antagonize, you have done it for years.

Trump is doing it for political reasons.   And to suggest it isn't a real issue     The city counsel of Austin just got rid of Columbus Day and replaced it w indigenous day.   I don't really have a dog in the hunt as to whether to get rid of Columbus Day but have a significant problem w basically doing it in the dark of night and then labeling any1 who disagrees w it as a racist.   Trump is a clown but he raises an interesting issue on where does the analysis of the idolized stop.   It's evident though that the liberal group thinkers in the media, on this site, etc think it should only be applied to the white right.

So,it was a troll job by the preceding US presidents as well...as it was faithfully done each of the 8 years by the previous president...?

Federal law say's the president is requested to proclaim the holiday every year on the second Monday in October as designated by Congress....

US CODE:  Title 36 >Subtitle 1 > Part A >Chapter 1> section 107

The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation—
(1) designating the second Monday in October as Columbus Day;

(2) calling on United States Government officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on Columbus Day; and

(3) inviting the people of the United States to observe Columbus Day, in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies that express the public sentiment befitting the anniversary of the discovery of America.

To put it in an other way....$200,000 in 1970 equals $1,280,806.37 in 2017.
