Oakland, California.

Once upon a time in America you could get a police officer to come out for just about anything - including for getting a cat down out of a tree.

But those days are long gone.

Today it is very hard to get a police officer to come out for anything short of murder. 

The following is a partial list of crimes that police officers in Oakland will no longer be responding to....

  • burglary
  • theft
  • embezzlement
  • grand theft
  • grand theft: dog
  • identity theft
  • false information to peace officer
  • required to register as sex or arson offender
  • dump waste or offensive matter
  • discard appliance with lock
  • loud music
  • possess forged notes
  • pass fictitious check
  • obtain money by false voucher
  • fraudulent use of access cards
  • stolen license plate
  • embezzlement by an employee (over $ 400)
  • extortion
  • attempted extortion
  • false personification of other
  • injure telephone/power line
  • interfere with power line
  • unauthorized cable tv connection
  • vandalism

Back to Stockton California.

Thousands of police officers have been laid off all across America since the current economic crisis began.  Thousands more are getting ready to be laid off.  So could we be on the verge of a new era of chaos and anarchy in America as crime runs wild and there are just far too few police to respond to it all?  That is the message that one blood-smeared billboard in Stockton, California is trying to get across.  Paid for by the Stockton, California police union, the message of the billboard is chillingly clear: "Welcome to the 2nd most dangerous city in California. Stop laying off cops."  As state, city and local governments across the United States continue to be devastated by the ongoing economic crisis, budget cuts are becoming much deeper and police forces have suddenly become a very popular target.

Officer Steve Leonesio, the president of the Stockton Police Officers Association, has announced that the police union plans to spend approximately $20,000 on at least 20 more billboards.

Why is the union putting up all of these billboards?

Well, it turns out that Stockton has been considering a plan to lay off 53 police officers in an effort to eliminate a $23 million budget deficit.

But law enforcement in Stockton has already been cut to the bone.  Recently, the Stockton Police Department dropped this bombshell....

So I pose this question to you ferrari pension supporters:

When are you idiots gonna wake up? This isn't too far away from what happened in Greece!!!!!!

Why not search the net looking for stories about how the rich fat cats and corporations are fucking this country over day after day.

By the way genius how is oakland supposed to respond to those crimes if they have the work force cut by 10 percent?  Send imaginary officers?  I know a dumb ass insurance crook like you couldnt understand that they would have to respond to more serious crimes.

I bring up Oakland and Stockton CA, because it proves my point that pensions and salaries for city workers in most places is unsustainable. Your feeble little brain cannot dispute that.

Stockton retirees would rather continue trying to get their ferrari benies than see their cities properly patroled and safe from crime. THAT IS A FACT!

The statistical fact is that cops and firefighters don't rank in the top ten of the most dangerous jobs. I will admit the job is dangerous but not as some would have you think

Hmmm Teachers work 9 months out of the year.

Police and fire can retire in their 40's.

I think cops and firefighters should get a sustainable decent wage.

How is a cops or firefighters level of danger different then a truck driver's? Truck drivers die on the job all the time. Firefighters do dangerous work...so do roofers...or most contractors.

A police officer statistically speaking is involved in one or two shootings (actually pulling the trigger) in their entire career. A roofer or truck driver actually may have a more dangerous job.

Statistically there are more dangerous jobs than police officer or a firefighter. An officer may get involved in a few shootings in their whole career while a roofer cannot make a mistake on a daily basis.

I know you conceded that there are abuses but I googled 'police overtime abuse' and found story after story where officers had been involved in that...usually to pad their pension.

You use back handed compliments to try demeaning and belittling those jobs. It takes a real man/woman to step up and put your life on the line for others. Those people are the ones that protect you and will save your megalomaniac ass if you are in trouble. People like them are special and deserve respect and to have a higher salary that members of congress.

Oh please all knowing one tell us your megalomaniac views on how much an arena league player, law enforcement officer and firefighter should make.

You keep using the words unsustainable. Which is ridiculous because everything is sustainable with proper money management. Too bad republicans and democrats are both to incompetent to figure that out.

I suppose today, since I have gone 2-0 on my bb picks, a policeman should make $300,000 a year, receive a free house and be able to retire after 10 years with 80% pay with full medical, dental and vision for themselves and his/her entire family for life and a 5 million whole life insurance policy. Yes, that seems fair, I like it!

 

While we are at it what should the company that makes the bullet proof vest get for protecting our nations police force. OR better yet what should the employee that sews the front panel of the vest (the critical one that covers the heart) make per year? I think that person should make $150,000 a year EASY. Without that company or that person doing that job we would probably have alot of deceased cops on our hands and that wouldnt be a wise investment. I vote the company should show a return of 35% even if it doesnt sell a single vest for an entire year and that all employees of said company get annual 5% raises.  It seems fair afterall.

Do you object to any of this cd?

On other realted note, ever see a city when the garbage workers go on strike?

you talk about an epedemic waiting to break out and make alot of people sick not to mention contamintaion to the water supply.

Now how much should the garbage man make for keeping us healthy and picking up everyone elses shit??

But that doesnt mean the cops should take cuts in pay because of that, nor should their be layoffs. The population is still the same and only going up, so you still need the same amount of cops and if not more as the population goes up. You can say this unsustainable line all you want, but i hate to burst your bubble, either the jobs are gonna have to come back to our country so more people are paying for the services, or sorry to say the people who do have jobs will have to pay more for the services. Its just the fact of living in the type of society we live in.  Like i said you cant just get rid of the cops because you think its unsustainable, because its always gonna have to be sustainable for these type of jobs.  So if you would wake from your coma and start joining the movement to get the jobs back here, so more people can pay for services like cops, you wouldnt be on here constantly crying like a little bitch about this stuff. yes jerkoff 300k is to much to pay a police officer. But is a police officer worth 300k for doing that job?  yes he is, but pussies like you would never know that, because you take jobs where your never putting your own life on the line everyday.

sorry but you cant pay a person 10-20 bucks an hour to be a cop. No person should have to go to a daily job, putting their life on the line in order to protect others in society.
Guys like lords point and the insurance crook would rather pay their money watching a sporting event, so the athletes can make ,many millions playing a silly game, instead of wanting to pay a decent wage to cops who protect and help us.
Some of you really have your priorities all messed up.

Simple question. What if the jobs don't come back for 10 years? or even 5? Is there a cap on how many millions we should get in the hole?
