If the Democrats do retake the Senate, toxic Trump will deserve much of the credit.

Ok sticking to the topic instead trying to make a desperate to take the thread off the topic,  it would be interested to see if the net effect of trump actually helps the dems.  Hard to say if it the effect of trump or if America including the GOP majority base itself has had enough of the failure and Ineneptitude of the GOP in this century.

But i think in the case of McCain specifically which is the actual topic I think that trump was able to play the race card against Mexicans and Hispanics With the talk of the wall.  And basically this was a roll call asking how much of the GOP base were angry racist bigots and the GOP lemmings lined up and identified themselves for the whole world to see what they are about and how they think.

Gw bush won because of the combination of nadar and the support of Hispanics.  The investment in Hispanics was good strategy to gain some of the minority vote and maybe Soften the overall image of the GOP but what trump did was instead invite  the GOP base to express their anger and emotion toward Muslims and Hispanics specifically with his talking points and alienate minorities in general.   This hurts McCain specifically because he is in Arizona and raises a good point.

5/4/16 is the day conservatism died and the GOP voting base communicated with their ballots they have had enough.  But I think this article showed that the GOP crumbling to pieces seemed to
Effect some politicians more than others

Trump playing the " wall card " is not hurting McCain's chances of being re-elected.......it's his image and low job approval that's the real problem.

chief driver behind the 2013 Gang of Eight bill, which would have allowed bureaucrats to waive border security requirements and expedite amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants, thereby ensuring that the rule of law takes a backseat to future waves of incentivized, illegal immigration. - See more at: https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/02/are-senator-mccains-2016-reelection-hopes-in-trouble#sthash.HK1klUak.dpuf
People remember,, that McCain was the chief driver behind the "gang of eight " bill ,to waive border security requirements and give amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens..........

The establishment RINO was overwhelmingly censured  by the Maricopa County Republican Party in 2014...Members of the group feel the senator has failed to stand behind the Republican Party's principles and crossed the aisle and voted with Democrats too many times.

About that time a PPP’s Arizona poll found, that John McCain is unpopular with Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike and has become the least popular Senator in the country...

McCain being one of the  "Keating Five" senators has resurfaced again when US Navy SEAL Charles Keating IV grandson of Charles Keating Jr was killed (without having his boots on the ground) in Iraq last week ..

Keating's Lincoln Savings & Loan put taxpayers on the hook for $3.4 billion... ..McCain -you little maverick- 33 years in Congress is enough ..see you later..bye..

20% defection rate. Dems crossing over to Trump. She was horrible walking back her comments on her desires to  destroy  the coal industry last week with a West Virginia coal miner.

Conservatives don't care what McCain has to say... he was an awful candidate.  If McCain criticizes Trump it helps Trump - just like Romney and Bush and many others.

So many still do not get it

I still think the powers that be could bring her down before the election.

McCain is 80 soon. I'm sure he thinks he has another 2-3 terms left in him, time to move on John... He's part of the problem just like all the career politicians, not part of the solution. Unlike the "non-partisans" here I have no problem criticizing a Republican...

The crazies at the trump rally sound bite probably didn't help him. Especially when he was refering to around 15 thousand fellow arizonians. Then the public backing of am queda ops freedom fighters in Syria has its own issues.

Trump is looking at a similar problem primaries is pretty cash but running against Hillary the doc and super Pac off shore donations he is going to need a billion end is starting to lean away from funding his campaign and concentrate on Senate congress and governorship. Not sure how trumps play is going to pan. His most important line is I am funding my campaign. If goes to donors he is a sell out. If he doesn't he is looking at a billion dollar expenditure. Like to see where it all goes.

McCain probably won't lose to a Dem in the election. If he is the Rep nominee he will win, but he has a fight on his hands in the primary from Kelli Ward. She has my vote, time to retire McCain.

Note: My location may say Nevada but I'm a legal AZ resident so I vote there.

I could not find any May polls, but the conservative website Real Clear Politics rated this Senate race a dead heat as of April.
