Democrats announced Friday that Biden will address the party in a “rally” to be live-streamed over Facebook at 3 p.m. Sunday. Other previously announced speakers and guests include senators and former presidential hopefuls Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Gov. Janet Mills, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree and U.S. Rep. Jared Golden.

U.S. Senate candidates Sara Gideon, Maine Speaker of the House; Bre Kidman and Betsy Sweet will also attend.

And the rally will also feature short messages from Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, the party announced Friday.

“One of the exciting parts of this is I’m on weekly phone calls with fellow chairs of state parties and many of them and their volunteers will be able to join in because they don’t have to fly in from Minnesota or Maryland or Utah,” Marra said. “So we’ll all get to enjoy each others’ events. So we’re expecting a fair number of people from out of state as well.”

She said the slate of speakers also points to national interest in Maine this election cycle, both in the presidential and U.S. Senate races. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has honed in on Maine as an opportunity to help flip the Senate to a Democratic majority.

“I think everyone sees Maine as an important and unique opportunity to make change in this country right now,” Marra said.

Susan can lose this race. Her Cavanaugh appointment is not going away.

PORTLAND, Maine — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders told Maine Democrats on Sunday that “police murder is an outrage” and said that creating a system that values the dignity of all people “starts with justice for George Floyd.”

The former Democratic presidential candidate told a “virtual rally” that replaced the state party convention that the Department of Justice should conduct an independent investigation of all police killings, including the death of Floyd, an African American man, in Minneapolis.

“We need a massive overhaul of policing in America which understands that a lethal response is the last response, not the first response,” he said.

Joining Sanders in delivering pre-recorded comments were two other former presidential candidates, Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, along with Democratic Gov. Janet Mills and candidates seeking office or reelection including U.S. Reps. Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden of Maine.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was originally scheduled to participate, but he was removed from the program. The Democrat is the likely bet to win Maine, though Trump is favored in the 2nd Congressional District, where he won one of Maine’s four electors in 2016.

Democratic candidates and officials used their allotted times to tout their positions and to get people fired up to vote President Donald Trump out of office and to defeat Sen. Susan Collins to retake the U.S. Senate. The event was held as protests, some violent, swept across the nation throughout the weekend following the death of Floyd, who died May 25 after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on his neck until he stopped breathing.

Sanders decried “systemic racism” against people of color and accused the president of being unwilling to fight injustice.

What our people want is a nation that respects the fundamental human dignity of every person. That starts with justice for George Floyd,” he said. “But it cannot and must not end there. We’ve got to end the racism, oppression and massive inequality that currently exists.”

    nature1970,

I remember you keeping us posted on the Jared Golden /Bruce Poliquin race.. .Pretty exciting race neither candidate won a majority,so they had to  implemented the ranked choice voting system ..and Golden came out a winner after being a little behind on the regular voting...

Yes this race seems to be headed for a similiar outcome. Collins was a more secured position than poliquin. She has alot more elderly support.

And she has never lost an election that I am aware of missed a vote on the floor of the Senate

. The factors that make this possible is the funding Sara Gideon has managed to secure. This could be the most costly election in state of maine history in the Senate race. The Cavanaugh appointment is the blood in the water and the remember in november movement has raised over a million to back Sara quest to unseat Collins.

Yes but that action is forgivable. She didn't vote to impeach Clinton either. Angus became the first senator in Maine's history to ever vote to impeach a president.

If I wrote a segment in Profiles in Courage documenting the political courage of a Maine's senator in the first impeachment case brought to the Senate.

You have a 75% chance to live to 83 and your estimated a life expectancy of 91 years..

that is if you don't drink or smoke ( that's any kid of smoking) and most important to making your life expectancy..don't run around with wild women..

    Hey My Brother!!

I too am a May 27th Gemini and every woman I have ever known ,,claim I'm true to my sign...

Being a Gemini born on May 27th, the way that you express yourself to others is one of your greatest assets. Being around people and the outside world causes your mind to come alive, which allows your personality to shine. Being witty and clever have never been a challenge to you and it is almost surprising to you that others cannot relate.

Bro!!!! We were bros already but now we're twins. I'm a true gemini too but you'd literally have to date me too see it. Funny story. Dated this chick about 10 years ago when the mrs and I were on a break. A few years younger, smart girl studying organic chemistry. Total science type that didn't believe in the Zodiac. She used to marvel at how I always seemed to know the right thing to say to her. I'd tell her, "You're a gemini. You may not believe in it but it's like i've got a cheat sheet. I know how your mind ticks."
