Gawker founder and former New York Observer editor Elizabeth Spiers claims that Jared Kushner told her Donald Trump doesn't actually believe Barack Obama wasn't born in the US, "he just knows Republicans are stupid and they'll buy it".

in 2006 Jared Kushner (Trump's son-in-law and senior Adviser) bought the New York Observer in 2006.

When I was editor of the New Observer, Kushner and I were going back and forth about how to cover Donald Trump. I told Jared that I was particularly appalled  by his father-in-law birtherism's stance, which I view as cynical and racist. He (Jared) rolled his eyes and said 'He (Trump) does not really believes it, Elizabeth. He just knows Republicans are stupid and they'll buy it"

    https://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/booklet.asp

It may not be as cut and dry as you might think. I know you were told he was born in Hawaii but there are a few inconsistencies.

    https://www.nytimes.com/1990/02/06/us/first-black-elected-to-head-harvard-s-law-review.html

Even this article that snopes cites as getting it correct has a message saying it was corrected at some point. The sentence that claims he was born in Hawaii is at the end of a paragraph and not in the middle and somewhat out of context.

    https://www.infowars.com/evidence-obama-born-in-kenya-goes-beyond-1991-brochure/

...Another source who met Sarah Obama told World Net Daily, “I have keenly and attentively listened to the tape over and over again, and I can confirm from Sarah’s own confession that Barack Obama was born in Kenya in her presence.”

    – A separate Kenyan government official agreed, stating, “I have listened to the tape. The preacher asked whether Barack Obama was born in Mombassa, and the translator asked the same. When she said Mombassa, it was like a surprise, and those there thought she could not have meant to say Mombassa.”...

Quoting a woman, who is in self promotion mode, and is of the "anti-Trump-even-if-I-need to lie" group is not exactly a credible news source.

Trump provides so much fodder with which to attack, yet the libs continue to make stuff up, which, in the end, hurts their cause.

Just as Trump is his own worst enemy, the left is their own worst, also.

Trump attacks the media for using anonymous sources

But Trump' anonymous sources are "extremely credible"

    https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/781838706030313472

An 'extremely credible source' has called my office and told me that @BarackObama's birth certificate is a fraud

    Trump's birther claims

    1. "Why doesn't he show his birth certificate? There's something on that birth certificate that he doesn't like."
    - March 23, 2011, on "The View"

    2. "He's spent millions of dollars trying to get away from this issue. Millions of dollars in legal fees trying to get away from this issue. And I'll tell you what, I brought it up, just routinely, and all of a sudden a lot facts are emerging and I'm starting to wonder myself whether or not he was born in this country."
    - March 28, 2011, on Fox News

    3. "He doesn't have a birth certificate, or if he does, there's something on that certificate that is very bad for him. Now, somebody told me -- and I have no idea if this is bad for him or not, but perhaps it would be -- that where it says 'religion,' it might have 'Muslim.' And if you're a Muslim, you don't change your religion, by the way."
    - March 30, 2011, on The Laura Ingraham Show

    4. "I have people that have been studying [Obama's birth certificate] and they cannot believe what they're finding ... I would like to have him show his birth certificate, and can I be honest with you, I hope he can. Because if he can't, if he can't, if he wasn't born in this country, which is a real possibility ... then he has pulled one of the great cons in the history of politics."
    - April 7, 2011, on NBC's "Today" show

    5. "His grandmother in Kenya said, 'Oh, no, he was born in Kenya and I was there and I witnessed the birth.' She's on tape. I think that tape's going to be produced fairly soon. Somebody is coming out with a book in two weeks, it will be very interesting."
    - April 7, 2011, on MSNBC's "Morning Joe"

Note: On April 27, 2011, President Obama made public his long form birth certificate. The Trump campaign in his statement portrayed this as the event that resolved the situation.
"Having successfully obtained President Obama's birth certificate when others could not, Mr. Trump believes that President Obama was born in the United States," Miller said.
But as the following comments demonstrate, whatever he thought personally, Trump continued to gin up birther issues for years after.

    6. "He didn't know he was running for president, so he told the truth. The literary agent wrote down what he said ... He said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia ... Now they're saying it was a mistake. Just like his Kenyan grandmother said he was born in Kenya, and she pointed down the road to the hospital, and after people started screaming at her, she said, 'Oh, I mean Hawaii.' Give me a break."
    - May 24, 2012, interview with The Daily Beast's Lloyd Grove, responding to an erroneous report about Obama

Trump's birther claims could not fit in 1 post

    11. "Well, I don't know -- did he do it? ... Well, a lot of people don't agree with you and a lot of people feel it wasn't a proper certificate."
-May 2014, in an interview with TV3's Colette Fitzpatrick in Ireland, Trump first contested whether Obama had released his birth certificate, then questioned whether its legitimacy.

    12. "There are three things that could happen. And one of them did happen. He was perhaps born in Kenya. Very simple, OK? He was perhaps born in this country. But said he was born in Kenya because if you say you were born in Kenya, you got aid and you got into colleges. People were doing that. So perhaps he was born in this country, and that has a very big chance. Or, you know, who knows?"

    - May 27, 2014, in remarks at the National Press Club

    13. "Who knows about Obama? ... Who knows, who knows? Who cares right now?... I have my own theory on Obama. Someday I will write a book, I will do another book, and it will do very successfully."
    - January 6, 2016, in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

    14. "I'll answer that question at the right time. I just don't want to answer it yet ... I don't talk about it anymore. The reason I don't is because then everyone is going to be talking about it as opposed to jobs, the military, the vets, security."
    - September 15, 2016, in an interview with The Washington Post.

Trumps "russian connections" bullsh!t will fade just like Barack Obama's "birth certificate" bullsh!t. Maybe they're both fake news. Maybe they both have validity. It doesn't matter. At the end of the day Obama was our president for 8 years. Trump is our president now. He's not going to get impeached. He's not going to quit. We need to give him support and hold him accountable but this reality TV show bullsh!t needs to stop. It used to be that we as Americans gave the office of president atleast a modicum if respect whether if we agreed with his politics or not. Starting with Bill Clinton those days have been rapidly fading. Kathy Griffin holding fake severed heads up? I'm not that old but I can't imagine that happening to any other POTUS in my lifetime. And then she cries and tries to play the victim. This country, while by far the greatest in the world, has problems. And it's not Trump, it wasn't Obama, it's us. The people. I think Trump is a total @ssclown but I still support him because he's are president.

    You spoke volumes, my friend.

    On a side note,
Once the "minorities" (you know who you are, and it's not all "minorities") stop playing the "victim" card in America and expecting a free fu##ing ride from the government that they think somehow "owes them something", will we truly be a great society.

I always love the, let's just say, "left leaning" town halls where some gross 400 pound "See You Next Tuesday" stands up and says:

"I'm 22, an uneducated mother of 4 from 3 different men living on welfare..... What are you going to do for me?"

Just once I'd like to hear:

"Not a GatDayum thing!!!!!! Get your s#it together, stop s#!tting out the b@stards, take a hold of your G@ddamn life, and be a part of FU##ING society like everybody else!!!!!"

I would vote for that person, I don't care what they were running for.....

i was with you most of the way until the part about no other president getting the threatening treatment trump is getting.  i can think of a fairly recent president who got all of that and much more.

but all of that is unproductive no matter who the president is.

as for supporting a politician just because he's a politician without regard to what he's trying to do and how much of a clusterfuck he may be, there aren't many of us true conservatives out there, but i will respond with a great conservative quote from edward abbey:

"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government."

I'm not a Trump or Obama fan.  Just show me ONE day over the next 4 years that the media doesn't go negative on Trump.  Fox News was about the only outlet that would go negative on Obama.  Add in a few far right websites as well.  Drop in on MSNBC on any given night during his 8 years and it was pretty much hugs and kisses.  They dreaded a Lynch, Lerner, Benghazi, Vet story etc.............

Saying all that I think Trump brings a lot on himself.  First off he could stop with the juvenile tweeting.  Reminds me of an 8th grade school girl lashing out at her friends.

i hate the media partly for the same reasons most people in here do but more so because i think they are just so incompetent and shallow.  yes, the subjects they choose to focus on are for the lowest common denominator and are more for theater than actual important stuff.  but what i hate even more is when they do focus on important issues, they are so incredibly shallow and lazy.  you can't learn a damn thing watching these idiots.  this guy said this and that guy said that.  ok, now look at this tornado damage footage.  it's painful.

i am forced to watch the nbc nightly news occasionally because the wife likes it and we keep it on nbc for jeopardy.  it's painful just how little useful informtion they can fit into a 30 minute "news" show.

but, in the mornings, i have the tv to myself and watch bloomberg.  that's the one news channel that is good, although of course the subject matter is limited mostly to economic issues, the stock market, etc although they do cover some general us and world news.

anyway, trump isn't likely to see any positive stories from those channels you mentioned.  i'm not sure he's deserved any yet, but if and when he does, i doubt the main news channel will have much analysis.  but, i won't be watching anyway.

I think we probably agree.  Wife and I love Jeopardy.  She likes local news so I find something else to do.  I used to surf between all networks just to see the differences in how a story was presented.  I pretty much gave it up after the election.  Blood pressure is much better.

When I spent a few months in Europe last year I watched BBC all the time.  Felt like pretty straight news with no agenda.  At least related to the US.

Most people in other countries (especially allies) disrespect Trump and have a negative view of him.

Wow. As opposed to a 400 pound caucasian woman with 4 kids from 3 fathers living on welfare? I think you have a skewed and unrealistic view of the welfare system.

No court rulings have ever been successful in declaring Obama ineligible to take office as President.  This conspiracy theory has been debunked by factcheck, politifact, snopes, LA times, US state department and Hawaii attorney general.  Obama's real birth certificate is held by Hawaii's department of health and has been examined by State officials many times.
